Caulker/BurnerWould you like to play a key role in the construction of the Type 26 Naval ships We currently require several Caulker Burners to join our team in Govan.As a Caulker/ Burner, you will be working as part of the Operations function on the Type 26 Naval ship programme which is currently constructing the first of class, HMS Glasgow on site in Govan. As production progresses, we require additional support for skilled trades people to join our team on site in permanent roles.This role will provide you with the opportunity to work as part of a large, friendly team contributing to the construction of cutting-edge Naval ships. These projects offer good longevity and job security.Your main responsibilities as a Caulker/ Burner will involve: Utilising Oxygen-Propane Hand operated cutting equipment to cut and prepare mild carbon steel ranging in thicknesses from 3mm to 75mm. Oxy-Propane wash out of previously deposited weld material.Utilising portable Angle and Die Grinders to dress areas to the required industry standards and to prepare weld joints both pre and post welding. Preparation of all steel structures and components prior to inspection by approval authoritiesArc Air Gouging of previously deposited weld material as part of weld joint preparation or post weld defect repairs.Air and Hydro compartment integrity testing to identify defects in otherwise leak free structures and compartments.Your skills and qualifications as a Caulker/ Burner:Essential: Heavy industry background such as: oil and gas, wind & turbine or shipbuildingDemonstrable experience as a: caulker/ burner/ steelwork dresser/fabricator (trade certification essential)Experience using oxygen propane burning processesAbrasive wheels certificateExperience of arc air gougingDesirable:Experience of hand operated plasma cuttingExperience and understanding of dry survey standardsWhat were looking for in you:You must possess good communication skills alongside the ability to work well as part of a team.
