Job Description

A family firm, with a proud track record of excellence, we aim high, act responsibly and value our staff and customers.We are currently seeking an experienced Buyer to join our Buying team in Glasgow. The successful candidate will have at least 5 years’ buying experience, with recent experience within the construction industry.KEY DUTIES:

  • Placing purchase orders with approved suppliers and co-ordination of those supplies and relevant procurement schedules.
  • Liaising with site teams to ratify requirements on requisitions and verbal requests (if required) and deal with technical queries.
  • Liaising with suppliers/branches to resolve any queries.
  • Assisting site teams in sourcing materials, plant and services.
  • Compliance with all company / procurement processes.
  • Effective management of plant on sites (Placing orders, off hiring and monitoring levels).
  • Distributing work wear for nominated divisions.
  • Managing any Purchase card issues for nominated divisions (raise limits / open categories etc.).
  • Maintaining a register of all purchased goods and plant considered as business assets.
  • Liaising and sharing information with members of the Buying team; including providing holiday / sickness cover as required.
  • Contributing to the preparation of monthly reports.
  • Other ad hoc administrative duties to support the buying team.
  • THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
  • The successful candidate will have excellent organisational skills, a strong character that thrives in a team environment, but who also can work on their own initiative.
  • A strong commercial approach is essential, as is excellent written communication skills - with the ability to plan and prioritise workload to meet business requirements and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail is important to meet internal client requirements.
  • A confident communicator at all levels you will be able to build positive relationships with internal clients and external suppliers.
  • ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 5 years experience working as a Buyer (with 1-3 years’ in a similar role in the construction industry).
  • IT Proficient: excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Full training will be provided on in-house systems.
  • Live within a commutable distance and have the right to work in the UK.
  • DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
  • CIPS qualified (or working towards).
