It’s run by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales. The information we collect is used to make decisions that affect everyone – things like how many schools, surgeries and hospitals we need.To help us, we need a large field team to complete doorstep interviews in assigned areas, and experienced team leaders to oversee their work. The roleDo you have experience managing teams In this important, temporary role, you will oversee and coordinate a field team, increase Census 2021 response rates and help us deliver a high-quality census.Your main task is to manage a team of interviewers, each completing doorstep interviews in an area assigned to you. You will induct your interviewers as and when they join, then guide them through the different phases of the census coverage survey.Your team works remotely, so you must encourage and motivate them through regular contact, calls and team meetings. You will also deal with and escalate any issues that might come up. To help, you will have the support of a wider group of team leaders, an area manager on hand for advice, as the support of a census staff helpdesk and online help should you need it.Your hours are flexible, although your team will mainly work evenings and weekends, so you will need to be available to support them when they need you.About youAs an experienced manager, you are well organised and make fair, effective decisions on time. Professionalism, confidence and resilience all matter. Good written and verbal skills in English are important, too (Welsh would be an advantage if you are working in Wales). You will use your initiative, think independently and remain calm – even in challenging situations. As this is a home-working role, you will need space you can use as an office. You will also need to be able to receive supplies, and assemble and distribute materials to your team. Depending on your location, you may need access to a motor vehicle, insured for business use.People make the census. If you are a supportive, motivational team leader who is interested in making Census 2021 a success for everyone, applyfor a census coverage team leader role.We can only employ you if you are eligible to work for the Civil Service. Appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including hand sanitiser and face masks will be provided to all staff; for your safety, you will be required to use and wear that PPE, as instructed, when you are working. Social distancing will be maintained throughout the operation.
