Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITYThis is an opportunity for you to join an established manufacturing and engineering company whose focus is on collaboration with customers and continuously developing improved products and sourcing strategies. Your responsibility as Strategic Sourcing Lead will be to establish strategic alliances with critical suppliers, developing new sources of supply to provide the business with a competitive advantage. Primarily based from the company’s main office in Gateshead, you will also have the opportunity to meet with suppliers both throughout the UK and internationally.THE DUTIESUltimately, you will be leading and developing sources of supply to provide the business with a competitive advantage and meet the business and customer specifications. This will see you working closely with the Strategic Sourcing Manager to identify and agree scope of commodities and categories.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leveraging spend across all purchases within the business
  • Risk assessing the business and suppliers to maintain a reliable and continuous supply
  • Ensuring all new suppliers are effectively onboarded
  • Maintaining an honest supply chain through continuous periodical benchmarking
  • Proactively seeking, recording and analysing data to understand current and trending issues with suppliers
  • Providing data to the business to make informed purchasing decisions, measuring supplier quality, cost, delivery and HSE/QMS scores
  • Holding routine review assessment meetings to manage supplier risk, and implementing improvement processes for poor performing suppliers with the ability to recover cost if required
    • WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU This is a permanent contract working within a secure and well-established business.Working hours are from 7.30am until 4.30pm Monday – Thursday and from 7.30am until 1.30pm on a Friday. However, there is a degree of flexibility with working hours.The salary on offer will be dependent on your level of experience.WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE DO YOU NEEDTo be shortlisted for the position of Strategic Sourcing Lead, you will need to bring:
  • Recent experience of working in a similar role, with responsibility for strategic supplier development, ideally from oil and gas or the energy market
  • An ability to evidence and demonstrate strategic sourcing results in the selection of suppliers that meet business objectives
  • Experience working with established Long-Term Agreements (LTA’s), Service Level Agreements (SLA’s), Mutual Terms and Conditions (MT&C) and Rebate schemes
  • An analytical mindset and the ability to quickly analyse and summarise data to make supply recommendations
  • Advanced skills in using Microsoft Excel to generate reports from data sets
