Job Description

GIS Assistant, Civil Engineer, GIS, GIS Technician, Permanent, Frodsham, CheshireGIS Assistant(Renewable Energy Projects)The forefront of wind energy development in the UK has a new opportunity for a candidate with strong knowledge and experience of using GIS software, AutoCAD and other similar software packages to join their Company. The GIS Assistants primary role will beto produce technical drawings and plans which will be used in the development and construction process for their renewable energy projects such as wind farms, solar farms, battery storage projects as well as residential property development.GIS Assistant must have-

  • a degree in a relevant subject (e.g. GIS, civil engineering or similar),
  • a minimum of 2 years experience working as a GIS assistant or technician for a similar company, focused on renewable energy, construction or property development
  • Experience of using AutoCAD is required along with experience of using vehicle tracking software to complete swept path analysis
The GIS Assistant will support their Project Development, Civils and Technical Teams providing them with the plans and drawings as required to support the various stages of their projects from site identification, design and construction and for inclusion inreports and Environmental Impact Assessments. Support will also be given to the Commercial & Legal Team in relation to landownership plans.The GIS Assistant will also be responsible for-
  • maintaining and managing their GIS datasets, shapefiles, mapping which will also include database management
Training will also be provided to the successful candidate to increase their involvement in the development of their renewable energy projects.The position is full time and is based at their Head Office in Frodsham, Cheshire.They have over 1GW of renewable energy in their portfolio containing onshore wind farms that are built, under construction and in development. As renewable energy specialists, they are fully experienced in the identification, design, development, constructionand operation of onshore wind energy projects. Key skills and requirements:
  • Experienced GIS Assistant/Technician with a minimum of 2 years experience working in a similar role
  • Will have a relevant degree in GIS, civil engineering or similar discipline
  • Experience of using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS extensions including Spatial Analyst.
  • Experience of using AutoCAD and vehicle tracking software
  • Experience of georeferencing and digitising map data
  • Capturing, managing and analysing data in GIS from multiple sources and in a variety of formats
  • Sourcing, preparing and analysing data to prepare graphics, metrics and reports in order to help non-GIS users understand the data we are presenting
  • Other experience of computer software systems used for renewable energy projects, such as PVsyst used for solar schemes would be desirable
  • Provide technical input into engineering solutions including foundations, crane hardstands, drainage systems and culverts, excavation and earth works, access roads and public highway works
  • Good communication skills as the role will involve liaising with colleagues, consultants and external stakeholders
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and hands on approach to design management
  • Excellent IT skills and confident in using Excel
Their projects are located in the UK, therefore a valid and clean driving licence is essential to travel to these locations to attend meetings, undertake assessments and carry out site visits. Vacancy Information:
