Job Description

Due to expansion, an exciting opportunity has arisen with a growing financial services company to work as a Credit Risk Specialist within the Credit Risk Team, focusing on our Buy-to-Let mortgage business. We are an award winning and growing financial servicesorganisation within the mortgage sector and a leading financial services provider with one of the most experienced management teams in UK lending.The opportunity is based in Fleet working the hours of 9am5pm. You will receive a salary of up to £38K dependant on experience, plus 25 days holiday, non-contributory pension, private healthcare, life assurance and income protection.Reporting to the Head of Credit, the Credit Risk Specialist will support the Credit Risk team and in particular the Senior Credit Risk Specialist in protecting the Company from the risk of fraud and to Underwrite Exceptions and complex buy to let mortgages.Ensuring all the information/intelligence received from our anti-fraud systems such as CIFAS, SIRA and Hunter are investigated and acted upon in a timely manner. To carryout broker reviews where intelligence has been received or where suspicions have beenidentified. To Underwrite Exception cases and Large HMO/MUB applications and to use Lending Mandate appropriately.Key outputs & responsibilities:

  • Assist in maximizing Anti-Fraud systems such as CIFAS, SIRA, and Hunter to mitigate potential losses
  • Investigate suspicious alerts identified by our fraud prevention systems
  • Send suspicious documents to be verified (Passport Agency and HMRC)
  • Receive and make telephone calls to/from other fraud specialists
  • Contribute to the establishment of a culture of responsible lending in line with the company risk appetite and strategic objectives
  • Develop and maintain co-operative relationships between all internal stakeholders and investigate all referrals in a professional manner (Underwriting and Sales)
  • Exercise personal lending discretion when assessing exceptions
  • Underwrite Large HMO/MUB cases
  • Carrying out Broker reviews, liaising with sales before removal of a Broker
  • Assist in preparing Management Reports, ensuring they are prepared in time for Exco or Credit Committee meetings
  • Design and deliver fraud training courses to internal staff
  • Investigate SARS raised by valuer panel manager or internal staff
  • Investigate referrals from Sales Support in respect of Broker Boarding
  • Investigate intelligence from our Networks and from other organisations
  • Assist Head of Credit in preparing project papers to expand Lending proposition as and when required
To be successful for the Credit Risk Specialist position you will have previous experience of working within a financial crime team and the mortgage industry, preferably with at least 5 years underwriting experience, having previously held a mandate. Educatedto Degree level, you will have a proven ability to exercise good commercial and professional judgment and good communication skills both written and verbal. You will be PC literate with a knowledge of Microsoft Office productsSuccessful candidates will have a good attention to detail, be adaptive to ongoing change, with an enthusiastic approach and a keenness to learn and develop a career.Buy-to-let mortgage experience is advantageous, but not essential.
