Job Description

Transport PlannerPlanning and routing the MSC own vehicle fleet on container work throughout the UK, ensuring the accurate and timely deliveries of customer products and achieving the required levels of productivity.We believe the successful Transport Planner should have the following skills:

  • Good understanding of transport industry (i.e. Drivers hours / Legislation)CPC qualification advantageous
  • Experience of routing vehicles and good geographical knowledge of the UK
  • Good telephone manner and customer service awareness and experience of working as a good team player in a pressurised environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with drivers
  • Knowledge of Destin8, VBS system & similar for the Ports of Felixstowe, London Gateway, Liverpool and Southampton
  • Willingness & ability to work flexible hours
The key tasks for the Transport Planner are:
  • Operate and route MSC Own Vehicles to achieve maximum utilisation and productivity while ensuring adherence with all relevant legislation. Ensure that OV work is selected/allocated up to five days in advance, to improve the utilisation of all intermodalresources
  • Participate in on-call rota to provide out of hours support to drivers and liaise with colleagues so that early and late coverage of planning desk is in place
  • Ensure that jobs are constantly updated in the Paris planning system so that relevant departments are kept informed of any non-conformances or problems. Provide Transops with full information to ensure that all detention charges can be passed to customers
  • Provide detailed explanations on haulage failures, VBS no-shows etc
  • Ensure that all imports/exports are matched-up prior to being signed off in Paris
