Job Description

Specialty Doctor in Haematology - AdvertThe Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a specialty doctor in haematology for a period of 12 months, commencing in mid-August 2020. This post consists of 10 programmed activities (9am-5pm). There is no formal on-call commitment with this post, but occasional Saturday morning ward rounds from 9am-1pm will be required, with time off taken in lieu.We are a friendly department encompassing all aspects of clinical haematology. The post-holder will be expected to participate in outpatient clinics, laboratory work and day case cover, including a major contribution to the training of 3 new advanced nurse practitioners and will benefit from weekly morphology teaching, journal club and other departmental seminars. Two PAs per week will be spent focussing on quality and service improvement activities. This post would suit either those seeking more experience in haematology prior to applying for higher training or those with previous training in haematology seeking to consolidate their experience prior to applying for consultant posts. Support can be provided for those seeking to sit the FRCPath examinations.As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will work closely with 7 consultants in haematology, 1 associate specialist, 1.5 specialty doctors, a registrar colleague, a core-trainee SHO, 2.5 clinical nurse specialists, 3 advanced nurse practitioners and the wider clinical haematology team, to provide a comprehensive range of clinical and laboratory services for patients. The post will involve working through and supporting all the activities of the department including a range of malignant, autologous stem-cell transplant, red cell and thrombosis / haemostasis services. The post holder will also be part of the on-call rota.The successful candidate must possess a basic medical qualification (e.g. MBBS or equivalent) and have full registration with the GMC. Applicants should preferably be a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent. Some experience and competence in clinical haematology is expected to meet the requirements of the post.The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust is the largest employer in the city of Exeter, serving the acute healthcare needs of a diverse community.
