Job Description

The role We are currently recruiting into a Band 6 training role of a Specialist Practitioner and Education Mental Health Practitioner Supervisor in an exciting new service which we will be delivering across Exeter. The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) will be based within the local schools, ensuring children and young people receive faster access to earlier mental health support. You will be one of the key leads in the set-up and running of this new Service. We welcome applicants from across Mental Health Services.In this role you will support and provide a high-quality services to students (and their families) experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. This will be achieved through the supervision of trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) who will be undergoing their training to deliver evidence based interventions to support the recovery of young people referred to the Service. Utilising skills and knowledge of CBT and child and adolescent mental health practice along with knowledge of whole school approaches to mental health, this work will be in accordance with Clinical Governance processes and Professional Standards. About you This post is open to candidates from a variety of clinical backgrounds. You will be an experienced and qualified professional (RMN, Social Work, Occupational Therapy).The Specialist Practitioner and Supervisor role will involve:

  • Supervising Education Mental Health Practitioners to deliver low intensity CBT based interventions and whole school approaches in line with the requirements of their course.
  • Be part of developing the service to meet the needs of the children, young people and their families in their schools.
  • Working closely with school staff to develop a positive ethos and increase understanding about mental health.
  • Deliver individual and group interventions to CYP and their families.
  • Offering training and workshops to school staff and other relevant professionals.
  • The Specialist Practitioner and Supervisor is required to:
  • Have a relevant professional qualification and be current in their discipline registration.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience of work with children and/or adolescents with a range of mild to severe mental health problems.
  • Experience of working in a multi- disciplinary team.
  • Experience of supporting young people in an educational setting and/or experience of working with schools, promoting a whole school approach to mental health.
  • Experience of working with and managing risk.
