Job Description

Synlab VPG is a market leading provider of veterinary laboratory services and is committed to providing the highest quality diagnostic results and advice to our clients.SYNLAB VPG is currently recruiting for a Scientific Officer to work in our veterinary laboratory in Exeter, Devon.Reporting to the Head of Laboratory, you will be responsible for carrying out routine diagnostic laboratory tests on samples provided by veterinary surgeries. The role is a multidisciplinary to include Biochemistry, Haematology, Cytology preparation, Serology testing and sample reception. Training will be given as needed to help with the diversity of veterinary samples.You will be responsible for compliance with internal and external QA schemes. You will be involved in the routine maintenance of the testing equipment, identifying any issues which may post a risk to the service. You will play a supportive role in the training of other personnel in laboratory work and provide technical support to pathology staffA full job description is available on request.Suitable applicants will meet the following requirements:

  • A relevant Scientific Degree or a minimum of 2 years of related laboratory experience.
  • A strong working knowledge of principles underlying testing procedures.
  • An ability to work in a systematic manner. Be able to work independently to complete allotted tasks in a time-sensitive manner with a high attention to detail.
  • High degree of dexterity required and able to concentrate for extended periods of time.
  • Good knowledge of computer applications and LIMS including Work, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills whilst maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the laboratory.
  • Ability to communicate technical information accurately verbally, written and electronically.
  • Desirable
  • Understanding of administrative systems and computer applications in use within Pathology, including LIMS.
  • A good understanding of animal diseases relevant to the testing service.
