Job Description

Butler Rose are delighted to be working with an Engineering/Manufacturing business in the Exeter area who have a current requirement for a Quality Inspector. Duties are wide ranging in scope, but the role will ultimately hold responsibility for ensuringquality standards are maintained at the correct levels.This is an excellent opportunity to work in a growing business where no two days are the same.Duties include:

  • Perform inspections across all stages of the manufacturing process, including fabrication, and provide guidance on the acceptable quality standards in alignment with company policies.
  • Execute Factory Acceptance Testing & ensure customer approval of products.
  • Calibrate measurement tools and assess testing variables.
  • Interpret engineering schematics, comparing them with the final product.
  • Utilise measurement equipment (e.g., Verniers, Micrometers, Portable CMM) as needed, establishing consistent inspection protocols.
  • Maintain and verify inspection records and production documentation for accuracy and auditability.
  • Aid in evaluating suppliers and accepting outsourced goods before delivery.
  • Investigate, document, and report manufacturing process errors and deviations from internal and external sources.
  • Document inspection findings and generate technical reports based on results.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance (QA) department to prevent future defects.
  • Engage with Quality Management Systems to enhance processes and conduct internal audits per ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 standards.
  • Conduct and assist in investigating product defects using the DMR / NCR process, producing reports when necessary.
Experience required:
  • Knowledge of typical manufacturing processes e.g. welding, assembly & finishing.
  • Good Communication skills (Verbal & written) at all levels including suppliers & customers.
  • Use of engineering measuring equipment such as Vernier, calipers, micrometres & dial gauges.
  • Report writing
  • Reading of technical drawings and schematics
  • Computer Competence
Package:
  • Salary up to £40,000
  • Monday to Friday role
  • Benefits package including enhanced pension and bonus (performance related)
