Job Description

Summary Were looking for a Project Manager to lead a great conservation project at A La Ronde, Exmouth in Devon.A La Ronde is an 18th-century 16-sided house built for two spinster cousins, Jane and Mary Parminter. This unique sixteen-sided house was described by Lucinda Lambton as having a magical strangeness that one might dream of only as a child. It is a GradeI listed building with a fascinating interior decoration.You will help establish and lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver the conservation of the shell gallery and play a key role in helping share this special place with existing and new audiences in innovative ways, including the use of digital and socialmedia, the project is circa £500k and made possible with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, we anticipate it taking two years to complete.We want an inspirational leader with versatile project management skills, who can deliver successful outcomes and realise our ambitious vision for this special place. What its like to work here Youll work flexibly between site and from home.Your high-profile work will be integrated into our National Trust Consultancy which provides properties with advice and practical support across the full range of conservation, marketing and supporter development activities. While you will be deployed toA La Ronde, you will be part of the consultancy and the wider project management community in the National Trust. We are looking for an active and enthusiastic contributor in these spaces. What youll be doing Youll lead on all elements of the project through to completion, working to a highly engaged project board and supported by a wide consultancy network including Building Surveyors, Conservators, Curators, Archaeologists, and other specialists.Youll liaise with external contractors, including construction contractors, conservation specialists and regulatory bodies to develop the costed and approved scheme.The project is now in delivery and you will pick up specific workstreams that are already in flight over the next two years. Youll manage the main contract, delivering the project to scope and budget. Youll oversee multiple connected work-streams and ensurethey are coordinated according to the overall project brief and programme and meet the funders requirements.A key aspect of this project is engaging and building relationships with our stakeholders and you must be really comfortable working in a matrix environment deploying your considerable influencing skills. Youll be working closely with a range of partnersand the local community to consult closely as the project develops. Who were looking for We will shortlist for interview on the following minimum criteria for the role:

  • You will have experience of successfully delivering this type of project, including defining resources, leading procurement and managing the finances, reporting and managing all aspects of governance, securing the project team and matrix management, acrossmultiple workstreams. Projects will have included similar conservation/ building projects.
  • You will hold, or be working towards, a recognised project qualification (APM PMQ, MSP or equivalent), show evidence of ongoing CPD in your career to date.
  • You will possess excellent communication, problem solving and influencing skills and be confident liaising with Senior Leaders, demonstrating experience of managing complex and contentious external stakeholder relationships, and motivating project teamsin complex situations.
  • Strategic thinking skills with the ability to cope with ambiguity and complexity to deliver the project, including experience of dealing with changing horizons.
  • Experience of developing and delivering successful funding applications and managing high level relationships with key funding partners such as National Lottery Heritage Fund and Local Authorities.
