Job Description

We are currently working with a rapidly growing telecommunications business based in Exeter who are looking to appoint an experienced Network Designer. The role supports the GIS initiative of the business through network mapping, design and the ongoing maintenance of FTTx data and applications in support of the business.Responsibilities:

  • Perform network survey and data collection in support of the enterprise GIS initiative and FTTX network design using GIS software, GPS equipment and other related tools
  • Document, compile, convert and organise GIS data from maps, databases and other sources
  • Conduct programmatic technical spatial analysis and data mining to support decision making
  • Ensure data quality assurance and maintenance of standard operating procedures and policies
  • Execute FTTx Designs, using knowledge of passive and active components and the business rules in order to support network build and expansions
  • Create and manage network documents inclusive of as-built design drawings, BOM, SLDs and Splice matrix
  • Utilise GIS and Network Management tools for the operation, and maintenance of FTTx and other telecommunications network components
  • Provide training on the use of GIS related software, applications and documents as necessary
  • Prepare maps, reports and other relevant information to stakeholders
    • Skills and experience
  • Thorough knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software, and other mapping and design applications
  • Ability to apply principles of analytical problem solving and GIS and telecom industry standards to a wide range of practical problems as they relate to FTTx networks
  • Detailed knowledge of FTTx networks and telecoms
  • Strong design experience and usage of design, survey and inventory applications
  • Excellent knowledge of FTTx topology
  • Extensive knowledge of outside plant equipment and activities
  • Expertise in FTTx design and OSP principles for construction implementation
