The successful candidate will be providing predominantly telephone or online-based support to people affected by dementia, as part of the Devon and Torbay DementiaAdviser Service. There will also be occasional community-based work, such as home-visits, across Mid and East Devon.This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity providing support and guidance to people living with dementia and their carers. We strive to help people to maintain independence, improve their sense of well-being, and putting people in more control of their ownlives. We promote a person-centred service so that our support is unique to each individual, based upon their own aspirations and needs.About youTrusted Expertsyou will be joining an experienced team of Dementia Advisers across the North Devon area, using a person-centred approach to provide expert local guidance, information and advice to people living with dementia and their family/carers.Better Together we pride ourselves on supporting people with an inclusive attitude and mindset is important to ensure we support everyone in the best way possible. There is an emphasis on partnership working and networking with Health and Social Care professionals,including the Older Peoples Mental Health Team, GP surgeries, Social Prescribers, Devon Memory Service and Social Services. You will need experience in networking effectively and collaborating with other professionals to achieve a positive outcome for serviceusers.Determined to Make a Differenceyou will be passionate about ensuring that people with dementia and their family/carers are able to live well, enjoy life and have their voices heard.Compassionateyou will have a caring empathetic approach to supporting and empowering people affected by dementia.You will have:-

  • A passion to support people to maintain their independence, improving their sense of well-being and putting them in more control of their lives.
  • A broad knowledge of understanding the needs of people affected by dementia.
  • The ability to work inclusively with people affected by dementia, along with an understanding of the need for client confidentiality
  • Great communication skills, adapting your approach to ensure understanding at all levels.
  • Have knowledge and experience of Adult and Children Safeguarding, Information Governance policies and procedures and statutory laws such as the Mental Capacity Act*
  • The ability to assess and evaluate client need which is essential along with good communication skills, organisational and time management skills to manage a caseload effectively.
  • Have a sound knowledge of IT systems to record data, write reports and communicate by email.
  • Networking and influencing skills and the ability to manage several tasks at once and keep yourself motivated to perform under pressure.
  • Be expected to travel independently across Devon.
  • Experience of face-to-face, telephone and virtual technology service delivery.
  • A broad understanding of statutory and voluntary services.
