Job Description

SummaryExeter City Council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced fire safety professional to join our dynamic and effective Compliance team which supports an equally ambitious and successful Housing department. We have a diverse housing stock portfolio and some 500 current fire risk assessments.About the jobReporting to the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Lead, as the Compliance Works Surveyor Fire, you will build on this achievement and manage all matters relating to fire safety in a post-Grenfell context. Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining effective systems for works, documentation and data
  • Acting as the competent person for all fire related issues for our department and tenants including incident and emergency response
  • Ensuring blocks of flats and HMOs are maintained in a condition with the lowest fire risk that is reasonably practicable with a golden thread of safety embedded in all building works
  • Managing contractor works and monitoring their performance
  • Ensuring all remedial and improvement works and activities are complaint with legislation, contract obligations and our own procedures
  • Ensuring we have absolute accuracy and clarity in our records and data
  • Supporting the work of the Planned / Reactive Repairs Leads in the planning, development and improvement of services.
  • Helping to develop better policies, procedures and protocols to ensure compliance and efficiency throughout the department
  • Spend control of delegated budgets for the above works
    • With a good understanding of Fire Safety in Purpose Built Blocks of Flats, the recommendations from Building a Safer Future, Phase 1 of the Grenfell Enquiry and guidance from the MHCLG, you will apply that knowledge to existing stock and new developments in preparation for the coming Fire Safety Act.About youYou will be a dynamic and forward focussed professional, preferring to take ownership of challenges and able to apply analytical thought to provide creative and elegant solutions.
