Job Description

Summary Exeter City Council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced asbestos professional to join our dynamic and effective Compliance team which supports an equally ambitious and successful Housing department. We have a diverse housing stock portfolio and most of our 5,000 properties contain ACMs although we have management surveys for very nearly all of them.About the jobReporting to the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Lead, as the Compliance Works Surveyor Asbestos, you will build on this achievement and manage all things asbestos including re-inspections, surveys, removals and associated activities. Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining effective systems for works, documentation and data
  • Acting as the competent person for all asbestos related issues for our department and tenants including accident and emergency response
  • Ensuring that ACMs are maintained in a safe condition
  • Managing contractor works and monitoring their performance.
  • Ensuring all asbestos works and activities are complaint with legislation, contract obligations and our own procedures
  • Ensuring we have absolute accuracy and clarity in our records and data
  • Supporting the work of the Planned / Reactive Repairs Leads and SHEQ Lead in the planning, development and improvement of services.
  • Helping to develop the asbestos management plan, better policies, procedures and protocols to ensure compliance and efficiency throughout the department
  • Spend control of delegated budgets for the above works
  • As part of these duties you will manage and oversee the activities of the Asbestos Surveyor and Asbestos Technical Officer and work to consolidate the strengths of the asbestos unit.
