Job Description

Our client, a well-known independent estate Agency in Exeter, are looking for a Chartered or Assistant (trainee) Building Surveyor to join their team with salary in the region of £21-35,000 dependent on level of experience.Full training will be given as long as you have one of the relevant qualifications as listed. This is a great career path with surveyors in such high demand and with excellent earning potential once qualified.Duties to include:

  • To offer professional advice on factors affecting existing buildings such as building defects, alterations, renovations and extensions, as well as on the design and construction of new buildings.
  • Monitor the performance of building structures and elements and devise ways to improve them or correct flaws in their design.
  • Work alongside local planning bodies and statutory authorities, clients, construction workers and other professionals to ensure projects meet the relevant safety, sustainability and preservation standards. Make listed building applications and appeals tothe planning inspectorate if and when required.
  • Advise clients about building/property issues, which can include technical, financial, legal, environmental/sustainability, building regulation and restoration matters.
  • Undertake Building Surveys, Mortgage Valuations, Valuation reports, Condition Reports & Homebuyers Reports.
  • Inspect and report buildings and building elements to provide defect reports including identification of causes, symptoms and remedies.
  • Assess the impact of unexpected damage on insurance and assist in the process of building insurance claims including assessment of loss and procurement of subsequent repairs.
  • Inspect properties and prepare technical reports for a variety of purposes including insurance, statutory and regulatory compliance & condition and defects.
  • Negotiating and co-ordinating the repair work or a financial settlement if required with regard to insurance claims.
  • Planning and overseeing building work on projects, including preparation of design, specifications and administering building contracts and issuing certification as required under the contract. Chairing meetings, taking and recording meeting minutes andagreeing final accounts.
  • Managing projects and multidisciplinary teams including structural engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers & environmental consultants
  • Deal with the impact of sustainability issues on development and construction and understanding of the impact made by sustainability on their projects and the financial management of that impact.
  • Supervision of works on site with knowledge of construction technology techniques and the relevance of techniques on site. Assist in the delivery of site quality requirements.

  • IT skills, including knowledge of industry-specific software.
  • Be analytically minded, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral and ability to present
  • Excellent project and time management skills.
  • Team working skills both with colleagues and other members of projects.
  • A full driving licence.
Desired Qualification(s)
  • BTEC or HND/HNC/ONC or
  • A degree in building surveying accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or
  • Chartered member of RICS (MRICS).
