Job Description

We are recruiting for an Alternative Water Supply Technician to join our team based across both Exeter and Barnstaple. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis, working a flexible shift pattern across 7 days a week. In return you will receive starting salary of £20,000 - £22,000 per annum dependent on skills and qualifications + potential for additional earning including standby and callout.South West Water is part of Pennon Group, a successful and stable business which prides itself on sustainability. In return, we offer an excellent range of benefits which include: free car parking at the majority of our sites, company Sharesave Scheme, childcare support, and various health benefits.As our Alternative Water Supply Technician, youwill undertake duties to support the Drinking Water Services Alternative Water Supply (AWS) strategy within the South West and Bournemouth network operational areas (targeted in a defined area but broadening to a regional context when operational need arises). You will ensure a constant state of safe and compliant readiness, repair, maintenance, operation and deploy ability of all AWS kit in and out of hours to assist in the achievement of customer service expectations and ODI obligations.Responsibilities as our Alternative Water Supply Technician will include:
  • - Ensuring that the Health, Safety & Security policies and standards are adhered to at all times- Undertaking all necessary operational maintenance, repair and exercising of the AWS equipment- Deploying, operating and tracking use of AWS kit when required, in and out of hours, and when qualified, participate in shift working- Maintaining and repairing supply interruption mitigation equipment- Ensuring company Supply Interruption ODI is at the forefront of all operations- Providing AWS and SI mitigation packages to AWS and NT techs – for example, designing & mapping locations of overland hoses, tanker hook-ups and new valve installations- Working in accordance with all associated QMS procedures and ensure an awareness level of them is maintained through self learning / understanding- Being aware of and compliant with all requirements to protect the environment as consequence of network operational duties- Supporting and undertaking any such other activities needed within the Water Distribution network to ensure its operation- Carrying out all requisite tasks in such a way that contamination is prevented and to understand what action to take in the event of a contamination or a suspected contamination- Participating in defined standby and call out rotas as necessary to maintain the effective delivery of Drinking Water Service- Undertaking, at all times, the provision of good relations with customers, public authorities, other bodies and colleagues by working within the required levels of customer service
    • What we are looking for in our ideal Alternative Water Supply Technician:- Full UK B driving license- Large Goods vehicle license C+E (desirable)- Driver Certificate of Professional Competency (CPC) (desirable)- HIAB certificated (Vehicle Mounted Hydraulic loader) (desirable)- A minimum of a GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English, Maths and a Science- Generally experienced in mechanical duties i.e. first line maintenance of equipment, pumps, valves etc.- Proven experience of working within a water supply environment- Proven track record of working to deadlines- Previous experience working on own initiative and working as part of team- Ability to complete deployment and maintenance reports- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions- 24/7 365 day flexible shift working- Participation in a standby and callout rotation- Provide other ad hoc support to operations as requiredFull training will be provided to obtain the required driving qualifications within a defined timeframe for the successful candidate, including HGV (C+E) and associated plant and equipment.Closing date: Wednesday7th October 2020If you are looking for a new challenge, please click apply now to be considered as our Alternative Water Supply Technician – we look forward to receiving your application.
