Specialist Speech & Language TherapistLocation: EssexCareer LevelB / Band 6Salary:£33,275 - £37,000 per annum, pro rata + Essex Allowance £1,250 per annum, pro rataHours: 15 hoursFull time hours considered if willing to work at the Northampton site for 22.5 hours a weekYou can achieve more at St Andrews HealthcareAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and compassionate Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our supportive SLT team at St Andrews Healthcare.We are committed to improving the quality and experience of patients in our care. We are looking for a Specialist SLT who is interested in developing their knowledge and skills working in mental health and is passionate about advocating for patients withcomplex mental health and communications needs.The SLT service at St Andrews Healthcare is a centralised team, responsible for supporting some of the most vulnerable people with their communication and dysphagia needs. Our experienced SLT team provide triage, assessment and interventions for communicationand dysphagia across a number of specialties including womens and mens Mental Health, Neuropsychiatry (e.g. Huntingtons disease, Dementia, and Acquired Brain Injury), Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disability and CAMHS. At our Essex site, we providepatient centred care for both men and women with a personality disorder and/or additional mental health issues in a low secure and locked environment.This is an exciting opportunity to re-establish an SLT service at our Essex site, enabling the successful candidate to develop their skills in service development, as well as providing specialist evidence-based communication and dysphagia input to meet theneeds of a complex patient group and support the multidisciplinary approach to holistic, patient centred care and recovery within a specialty field.The successful candidate will be the only SLT based in Essex, however will have access to clinical supervision and support from the SLT team in Northampton as well as the wider multidisciplinary team in Essex.Our vision is to be at the forefront of specialist SLT provisions working within Mental Health. The successful candidate will be pro-active and accountable, and will be involved in ongoing service development projects to help us achieve this goal.What you can expect from us:

  • BSc Speech and Language degree, or equivalent
  • HCPC registeredand RCSLT membership
  • Recognised UK RCSLT dysphagia training or evidence of RCSLT competency sign offto at least Level C.
  • RCSLT NQP competency sign off
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working within relevant specialist areas (e.g. CAMHS, LD, ASD, Neuropsychiatry, Mental Health).
  • Experience of independently managing a dysphagia caseload
  • Demonstrates knowledge of assessment and intervention relevant to specialist client groups, underpinned by theory and practical experience.
Knowledge and skills
  • Clinical knowledge in one or more of the relevant clinical groups, such as learning disabilities, autism, mental health, neuropsychiatry and CAMHS.
