Job Description

Mode 3 are exclusively retained to appoint a new European Road Freight Director for this leading freight and logistics group.The client is seeking an experienced senior leader who will be responsible for directing, developing and growing its European Road Freight division to achieve a £100m turnover within the next 4 years.The successful candidate will be skilled in developing long-term operational strategies, working closely with senior management to meet company objectives. Excellent leadership and coaching skills gained in a busy groupage environment are essential. This is a senior role, the candidate must be capable of engaging at all levels, driving continuous improvement and have the ability to influence across multiple sites.Principle Duties:

  • To direct and control all European Groupage operations to ensure the business objectives are met efficiently and effectively. Driving sustainable, profitable growth across the business unit
  • The role includes European Customs department including AEO and ETSF accreditations
    • Responsibilities
  • Direct and empower all of European road freight employees to ensure that they are engaged, motivated and trained, supporting the group wide aim of being an employer of choice’.
  • Maximise efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration
  • Contribute to the development of the company’s corporate strategy and lead strategy development in the areas of groupage to ensure that company achieves its short and long-term objectives
  • Lead a culture of continuous improvement, develop, and implement all necessary policies and procedures to ensure that the business area achieve their business objectives
  • Overall accountability for the groupage P&L ensuring the business unit has all the resources required to meet its objectives within agreed financial parameters
  • Direct and empower the business to deliver service excellence to all customers/stakeholders, delivering best in class service
  • Develop all necessary policies and procedures to ensure that a safe and healthy working environment is maintained at all company sites
  • Ensure compliance and maintain AEO status
  • Driving service excellence, across the business unit measured through service KPI’s
  • Drive a strong quality culture which underpins everything we do
    • Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of freight forwarding experience, qualification in logistics, international transport and/or freight forwarding would be an advantage.
  • Proven experience as Director of Operations or equivalent position
  • Excellent organisational and leadership abilities
  • Outstanding communication and people skills
  • Knowledge of industry’s legal rules and guidelines
  • In depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (e.g. supply chain, finance, customer service etc.)
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
  • Familiarity with MS Office and various business software (e.g. ERP, CRM)
  • BSc/BA in business administration or relevant field; MSc/MA will be a plus
