Job Description

Our clients are the proud guardians of over 130 years of baking experience that make up their iconic and much loved brand. They produce bread and bakery products created with Ho goodness at the heart of each with the delivery of around 1.3million loaves, every day of the week throughout the UK and Ireland, where we also make Mothers Pride and Ormo.We employ around 2,800 people at 8 bakeries, 1 flour mill and 3 regional distribution centres across the UK and our success is a result of the hard work our people; they are experts in their field whether it’s baking, manufacturing, logistics, engineering or the many departments our central functions team headquartered in High Wycombe. We are a values-led business and encourage our employees to live, breath and embed Quality, Accountability and Trust into their working days.The role:A great opportunity has arisen at Hovis for a Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to lead and develop all safety production activities while driving improvements within agreed safety, cost, quality and timescale criteria, in order to optimize the use of all assets. You must ensure the site’s compliance with all relevant Hovis Ltd and Legislative Health & Safety requirements within the working environment and fully own Risk assessments and overall quality of the safety output.

  • Effectively coordinate Health, Safety & Environmental activities for the site/company ensuring that all agreed targets and activities are achieved in a timely manner.
  • Provide an unbiased and transparent auditing function for site/company.
  • Lead, develop and implement sustainable HS&E management programmes and provide the strategic architecture for HS&E that will ensure statutory accreditations are retained
  • Ideal experiences / Qualifications / capabilities:
  • Ability to influence effectively and present at all business levels.
  • Demonstrable track record of success/achievements.
  • Evidence of accident prevention programme implementation.
  • Proven experience in developing (& maintaining) leading metrics and driving associated culture change.
  • Proven ability to design and conduct H&S based training for groups of people.
  • Proven impartiality during investigations and/or deployment activity.
  • Proven experience of tactical deployment against company strategy.
  • Proven experience of positive engagement in HS&E arena / HS&E change management
  • NEBOSH general certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • IOSH qualifications.
  • Experience of working with Duty Holder Register and specifically DSEAR; PUWER
  • Experience of ISO14001/18001 / internal auditor.
  • Exceptional verbal and numerate skills.
  • Proven competence with IT systems.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience of working in a unionised environment.
  • Lead Auditor.
  • IEMA Certification.
  • NEBOSH Environmental certificate.
  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Member of Site or Company Senior Leadership Team
