Job Description

Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer required, who is passionate about engineering and all elements of design. Our client is a close-knit and rapidly growing manufacturer based in the Enfield area. The successful candidate will be responsible for the designand development of pharmaceutical fluid handling systems, from initial concept through to manufacture, testing, and completion.The role would suit a technically minded individual who holds a real interest in engineering design, can be self-governing, and has good interpersonal skills. Though you will be given your own project you will be fully supported throughout by our experiencedand sociable team.   • Carrying out and assisting in the design of bespoke fluid handling machinery for the pharmaceutical industries, from initial concept design to installation.
  • Collaborating with and supported by departments including: project management, procurement, manufacture, electrical, and automation throughout to ensure system is developed to specification and on time.
  • Development of 2D Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD from initial concept to construction in line with the companys drafting standards.
  • Creating preliminary 3D models with Autodesk Inventor for use in concept design, and develop further detailed 3D master models throughout the project.
  • Producing general arrangements, and detailed steelwork & pipework manufacturing drawings from master models.
  • Manage and assist with in-house manufacture of systems to ensure project requirement are met throughout the build stage.
  • Attending meetings with client alongside the project management team to assist with development of projects.
  • Assist with process engineering activities from concept design through to detailed design and commissioning.
  • Creation, analysis, and optimisation of process calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, process descriptions, equipment datasheets and specifications.
  • Contribute to design review activities, including HAZOP, LOPA, process review and mechanical review activities.
  • Equipment sizing and specifying including: pumps, heat exchangers, control valves, process and utility line sizing.
  • Liaising with suppliers, and supporting procurement in selecting appropriate equipment, evaluating and deciding between supplier offers and procurement negotiations.
  • Liaise with clients and suppliers for on-site installation and commissioning activities.
  • Occasional short-term travel for site installation and commissioning activities, both domestically and internationally.
Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer Position Requirements
  • MEng / MSc Mechanical Engineering Degree (or equivalent)
  • Proficient with the use of Inventor (or similar CAD software such as Solidworks) is essential
  • A team player with an ability to self-manage and develop projects from an outline brief and specification
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes would be beneficial as we manufacture all our systems in house
  • A basic understanding of engineering process equipment (such as pumps, heat exchangers and valves etc.) would be beneficial.
  • Attention to detail and a high standard of verbal and written skills
  • An aptitude for undertaking engineering calculations, analysis, and problem solving
  • Ability to commute to Enfield is required.
Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer Remuneration
  • Starting salary £25,000 - £30,000
  • Monday to Friday, Full-time, Permanent position.
  • 28 days holiday (including bank holidays).
  • Sponsorship of membership to a professional engineering body e.g., IMechE
  • Genuine flexible remote working; attendance to office would be required during initial training period and critical manufacturing stages but otherwise remote working is typical.
  • Travel opportunities abroad and national.
  • Support in continual professional development with internal and external training.
