Job Description

Machinist/Fitter (CNC, Milling, Turning)Our client is a world leading machine builder and manufacturer, operating within a specialist sector, on a global scale.Due to continued expansion, they are looking for a highly experienced manual machinist/ fitter to join their team based in Ely, Cambridgeshire.As a manual machinist/ fitter, you will be crafting the parts necessary for their in-house automated machine builds, as well as building machinery, repairing, and making modifications to equipment.You will be required to have at least 5-years of experience in a similar role, or a portfolio of works that can be reviewed. You will also be responsible for line managing a junior machinist and helping them to achieve further skills within their role.The ideal candidate will be a motivated and ambitious individual that is willing to work as part of a small and specialist team.Principle duties include:

  • Ensure the highest standards and are delivered and demonstrated
  • Machining of any parts required, Milling and Turning
  • Organising of your time and that of the junior machinist
  • Keeping check of tooling and materials
  • Building and modifying new or existing machinery
Essential knowledge & skills:
  • Fully skilled in Milling and Turning
  • Be able to Turn between centres to very tight tolerances
  • Fully proficient in rotary table usage
  • Can work to the best engineering practises and housekeeping
  • Able to assemble the frame upwards to a high standard of fit and finish
  • Assembly of precision tooling, linear and rotary products
  • Pneumatic builds
Desirable skills
  • Surface grinding
  • Basic annealing and heat treatment
  • TIG welding
  • Brazing
