Job Description

RECRUITMENTiQ is working in partnership with aday-case hospital is a private diagnostic and day surgery centre founded in 2008.At our clinic, our patients are at the heart of our service and we are committed to providing a valuable choice for patients looking for private healthcare in Scotland. We work with an experienced team of over 100 leading local consultants, nurses, and otherspecialist health professionals offering speedy access to a comprehensive choice of clinical and surgical treatments.We are looking to appointtwo registered Theatre Practitioners to join the Theatre team, working 37.5 hours per week.The Role

  • To assist the surgical team throughout the peri-operative phase of care.
  • To support and assist in the management and organisation of care provision within the TEC Theatre.
  • To provide surgical assistance as required only when in possession of an Advanced Scrub Practitioner qualification.Theatre staff holding this qualification will be covered for vicarious liability by the Company when assisting the surgeon.
Key Accountabilities
  • Assemble, check and prepare the appropriate anaesthetic, surgical and recovery equipment, drugs and consumables for a wide range of operative procedures incorporating various types of anaesthesia. To ensure the safe care of the patient during their peri-operativephase of care.
  • The ability to coordinate the use of the supplies and equipment during the operating list and during the immediate postoperative phase of care ensures the equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner.
  • Conduct mandatory patient checks including informed consent, patients identity and operative site against the supporting documentation, prior to the start of the anaesthetic and prior to the start of the procedure.
  • Complete mandatory surgical checks prior to the start of the procedure, during and pre-wound closure
  • Proactively monitor the patients level of discomfort/pain and take appropriate actions to ensure the patient is comfortable.
  • Administer drugs and fluids to the appropriate companypolicy
  • Communicate appropriately with others involved in the care of the patient
  • Monitor, order, receive and check stock items including consumables, equipment and drugs.
  • Ensure any accidents or complaints are fully documented and that the appropriate manager is informed
  • Complete all written documentation in a timely manner and to a legible standard.
  • Act as a role model.
  • Promote and ensure an environment conducive to the continuing prevention and control of infection for all staff, patients and visitors.
  • Be aware of and comply with all infection prevention and control policies and ensure best practice is maintained to ensure low infection rates.

  • Work with minimal supervision under the guidance of a Lead Theatre Practitioner.
  • Participate in regular meetings of the Theatre Team
  • Participate in mandatory and e-learning training programmes
  • Participate in standards and quality improvement procedures
  • Participate in audits
  • To comply with TEC and departmental policies to provide a safe and effective environment for both patients and staff
  • Support HCAs in their role
  • Contribute towards maintaining a cost-effective service
  • Contribute to the implementation of change management
  • Maintain confidentiality / Data Protection Act and at all times
Qualifications, Skills and ExperienceEssential
  • Registered Practitioner with NMC or HPC registration
  • Approved/recognised anaesthetic course (if undertaking anaesthetic practitioner role)
  • 1st assistant recognised course (if undertaking 1st assistant role)
  • Up to date clinical knowledge
  • One to one teaching
  • Effective staff supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise own work.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Excellent customer care skills.
  • Significant post-registration experience in the operating department working
  • Good IT skills
Desirable
  • Qualifications in: ENB 998 and/or mentorship course and/or D32/33/A, ILS, ALS and External
  • Orthopaedic and/or ophthalmic theatre experience
  • Skilled in more than one area i.e. scrub, recovery, anaesthetics, 1ST assisting
  • Advanced IT skills
  • Orthopaedic and/or orthopaedic Scrub skills
