Venesky-Browns client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, are currently looking to recruit a Technical Lead for an initial 12 month contract on a rate of c.£500-525/day (outside of IR35). Due to the current circumstances this role will be remote based for the foreseeable future. The Role:An experienced software engineer is required to provide hands-on technical leadership to an agile team within our clients Data domain, and to act as a conduit between the team and the Architecture Steering Group, helping to define and refine best practices, standards and architectural principles. The focus of the work will be leading on the design and implementation of the Data Warehouse, data portal and associated services, ensuring all solutions are well architected and designed in line with the organisations engineering principles and best practices.Responsibilities:• Lead the design, architecture and implementation of the Data Warehouse and associated data portal and services• Ensure data integration solutions are robust and resilient• Collaborate with technical colleagues in other domains to ensure technical interdependencies are managed effectively• Liaising with colleagues from Product Management, Business analytics and Land & Property Data teams to identify technology solutions and to prioritise and shape the domain roadmap.• Technical leadership to ensure that solutions reduce reliance on legacy systems.• Support the team in both their tactical and strategic work to help ensure the team delivers a cohesive solution that is well-architected and designed in line with engineering principles and best practices.• Actively participate in the architecture steering group and wider community, ensuring that the architectural and engineering principles and best practices are defined, understood, agreed and adhered to.• Building and maintaining an agile culture of continuous delivery and improvement, with a focus on frequently releasing high quality, tested, working software.• Championing ideas/changes/designs that you and/or the team believe are beneficial, influencing peers and key stakeholders as appropriate.• Ensuring that developed software complies with non-functional requirements, such as accessibility, security, UI/UX, performance, maintainability, deployability, etc.• Coaching and mentoring other team membersEssential Skills:• JavaScript UI frameworks, including React• Python 2.7/3.x• PostgreSQL/PostGIS• REST APIs• Modern DevOps and CI/CD practices including deployment pipelines, Jenkins and Docker• Delivering high quality software collaboratively in high-performing, cross-functional development teams.• Designing, gaining consensus, and implementing technical solutions for software development projects• Ability to work with business stakeholders, to understand the context, and to focus on delivering value.• Experience designing and implementing data ETLs and data integration solutions• Experience working in the Agile delivery models - such as Scrum and/or Kanban frameworks.• Pair-programming• TDD/BDDDesirable Skills:• Data warehousing• Hybrid on-premises/cloud solutions• AWS Lambda, S3, Cloud Formation, Aurora/Postgres, API Gateway, CDK• Using testing tools for unit testing, including system test automation frameworks• Openshift• Designing and implementing solutions using service and event-based architectures• Monitoring, alerting, intelligence tools and processes, including Grafana• Human-centred, research-driven, inclusive design practices• Developing within Digital First or GDS quality standardsIf you would like to hear more about this opportunity please get in touch.
