A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a skilled Technical Lead in Database Development to join a dynamic team for a 6-month contract. Operating outside of IR35, this role will be based in Edinburgh with a hybrid working model.Job Title: Technical Lead - Database DevelopmentDuration: ASAP - 6 monthsStatus: Outside IR35Location: Edinburgh - HybridRate: £450-£500 per dayMain Objectives:

• Lead the transition of existing Oracle databases from Sparc hardware to x86 hardware hosting Oracle Linux.
• Lead the migration of remaining on-prem Postgres databases to AWS.
• Lead the implementation and improvement of CDK constructs supporting the migration and management of databases in AWS.
• Manage the rollout of the centralized backup solution for AWS PostgreSQL estate using the onsite Commvault solution.
• Collaborate with technical colleagues in product domains and in the enablement space to manage technical interdependencies effectively.
• Define, refine, and prioritize the database roadmap and backlog in collaboration with colleagues, Product Managers, and Enablement leadership.
• Lead the reduction of the legacy database estate by aiding the transition to modern stable environments.
• Actively participate in the RoS architecture steering group and wider community, ensuring adherence to architectural and engineering principles.
• Coach and mentor other team members.
• Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and teamwork within the team.
• Ensure appropriate documentation and artifacts are maintained, including data standards and local work instructions.
• Create plans for regular updates, installations, and testing of new versions and upgrades of databases.
• Work closely with the team to adapt and improve support processes for timely resolution of database issues.
• Ensure the existing on-prem estate meets service standards until migration to AWS is completed.
• Ensure CDK constructs embody agreed standards for resiliency, security, and backups.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Significant commercial experience with AWS technologies (IAM, S3, EC2), Serverless (Lambda), Typescript (or modern JavaScript), CDK, Cloud Formation, SQL, RDS, PostgreSQL, and monitoring solutions (e.g., CloudWatch, Grafana, Kibana).
• Demonstrable experience in collaborative software development, understanding business context, designing and implementing solutions for database infrastructure projects.
• Ability to work with product team stakeholders, delivering value while handling complex dependency requirements.
• Design and implementation of solutions using a service-based and serverless architecture.
• Excellent collaboration, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Experience working in Agile delivery models (Scrum and/or Kanban frameworks).
• Cloud database monitoring, telemetry, intelligence tools, and processes.
• Defining infrastructure-as-code.
• Testing of disaster recovery procedures.
• Data replication and high-availability technology.
• Note: Some services may need to be provided outside of RoS core business hours (07:30-17:30) to ensure continuity of service. The successful candidate is expected to plan and manage their working hours accordingly.
