Job Description

We have a fantastic opportunity to work as Technical Director in one of the UK’s leading Engineering Consultancies working with clients on a variety of projects spanning commercial, retail, residential and industrial sectors.Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Building Structures team on the delivery of steel, concrete, masonry and timber design services (inc calculations, drawings, specifications and reports) for the preliminary, detail design and construction phases of a project.
  • Reviewing designs and drawings completed by team members or other parties for compliance with design standards and best practice guidance.
  • Ensure work is compliant with Health and Safety legislation such as the CDM Regulations and other applicable codes.
  • Provide technical leadership, providing support, mentoring and guidance to developing team members.
  • Liaison with Clients, Project Team, Local Authorities, and other relevant third parties.
  • Provide technical leadership on multi discipline projects large and small.
  • Liaise with and lead other members of the design team to achieve a coordinated design solution that meets and exceeds the Clients objectives.
  • Oversee structural engineering assessment and inspection of new and existing properties in steel, concrete, masonry and timber.
  • Oversee analysis and design using a range of software packages including Tekla Structural Designer.
  • Oversee preparation of site appraisals feasibility and pre-planning assessments of building structures and associated infrastructure
  • Manage and review reports, designs and drawings completed by team to ensure consistent high quality and compliance with design standards, industry best practice, contractual obligations and client expectations
  • Manage the inputs from other in-house discipline teams and sub-consultants.
  • Attendance at design meetings, site meetings and carry out site inspections.
  • Project management, team management and budgetary control.
The Person:
  • Bachelor’s or Masters’ Degree in Structural Engineering
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (MICE or MIStructE).
  • SER Certifier status preferred. Full support and training will be given to progress towards Certifier status, if required.
  • Varied experience in all the common forms of construction and building types.
  • Experience in the use of Eurocodes.
  • Excellent report writing, communication and numerical skills required.
  • Experience of structural analysis design and software essential.
  • Min 8-12 years post chartered experience or 15years post incorporated engineer, or 20 years’ post-graduation experience.
  • Full clean driving license
