Job Description

Senior Platform Engineer (Networking) - EdinburghPertemps Scotland Ltd are working with our client in Edinburgh to recruit for a Senior Platform Engineer on a temporary basis for 6 Months.The role is full time role with an excellent day rate on offer. This role is within IR35.The main duties would be:

  • Taking active part in the teams and departments Agile culture by learning and putting into practice the VFQ disciplines
  • Managing workloads using Kanban techniques and/or other team defined methodologies
  • Strong sense of ownership and duty of care to the platform
  • Managing network platform health, availability, integrity and currency to an acceptable level
  • Ensure appropriate access controls are in place, monitored and adhered with
  • Monitor, manage and where necessary improve performance of network and platform to meet the expectations of the end-users
  • Work with multi-skilled DevOps teams where skills allow and the need arises
  • Work closely with design authority, PMO representatives, the test team and developers
  • Perform planned platform upgrades/patching when the need arises
  • Review designs to meet system capacity requirements
  • Create and maintain system and network documentation as appropriate (e.g. MS Visio diagrams, system admin docs and local work instructions (LWI))
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any network and platform related issues
  • provide guidance to wider technical teams on issues that fall within own skill areas
    • Essential Skills:
  • Knowledge and experience of Agile working, including such disciplines as Kanban, feedback, retrospectives, VFQ
  • Customer focused, through proactive engagement;
  • Risk aware, focused on risk reduction and mitigation;
  • Expertise knowledge in Cisco, Checkpoint and Palo Alto technologies;
  • Networking:
  • Cisco Routing & Switching
  • Common Design topologies for layer 2 / layer 3 services
  • Checkpoint / ASA Firewall administration
  • Experience with Nexus product line; calendar
  • Desirable
  • Experience of working in a DevOps environment
  • Drive platform strategy through SME knowledge to maximise platform availability in a structured and considered manner over the long term
  • Strong proponent of automation in design and implementation
  • Work with wider assurance function to ensure DR / BCP design, testing procedures are well established and performant
  • General security design and architecture knowledge
  • Experience of SDN NSX Environment
  • Experience of Cisco OTV support
  • Experience with VMWare Vcentre, cross site deployments
  • Experience with SRM
