Job Description

RECRUITMENTiQ is working in partnership with a national charity whose mission is to relieve the suffering and meet the long-term needs of homeless and vulnerable people in Scotland in their search for a part-time Shop Manager.The charity has a vision - to work together towards the aim of Ending Homelessness in Scotland.We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Shop Manager to join the organisation on a part-time basis to provide excellent customer service in a professional charity retail environment in their Edinburgh branch.The RoleYour role will be to identify and encourage the potential of staff in order to maximise their contribution to the success of the shop. You will actively seek donations to maintain required stock levels with strong pricing, stock rotation, and proactive selling.You will be responsible for building strong connections with local faith communities as well as growing and developing the business in line with strategies agreed with the Head of Group Income Generation.Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Sustain a safe, clean and attractive shop environment.
  • Actively manage staff absence and discipline.
  • Deliver the required financial performance of their shop. Develop new income streams in consultation with the Head of Group Income Generation.
  • Implement strategies agreed with the Head of Group Income Generation, making day-to-day adjustments based on current performance to meet targets in any given week.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers understand the published goals and sales targets for the week. Ensure that staff and volunteers have regular support and supervision sessions within the framework of the balanced scorecard.
  • Look after the day-to-day rotas and routines required by the shop to function accurately, namely staff matters, cash handling, health and safety, manual handling, and managing reputational risk.
  • Participate in and occasionally lead Christian worship in a work setting and respond to questions about the Christian faith from personal experience, in order to contextualise Bethanys Vision of working with vulnerable people as an expression of Christianlove in action.
  • Organise daily devotions and sets out the days plans with key tasks and sales targets.
  • Liaise with the Head of Group Income Generation to ensure that adequate staffing is in place for the coming 12-week period.
  • Be the initial point of contact for customer complaints and queries and would resolve these in the first instance.
  • Raise any problems or concerns that they feel are out of their control with the Head of Group Income Generation.
  • Make decisions about shop displays, sorting, recycling, pricing, and discounts.
  • Work closely with Retail Assistants and volunteers.
  • Build relationships with customers, donors, Churches, and other supporters and is responsible for upholding the charitys reputation in their day-to-day work.
Skills and Experience
  • A standard level of education.
  • A hands-on, can-do approach to problem-solving and achieving results.
  • Experience in leading a team and motivating others.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a proven record of such. Enthusiasm to achieve SVQ 3 in Customer Service, allowing to demonstrate competence in communicating in a customer service environment and delivering customer service within best practice guidelines.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to focus on others productively.
  • Competent in the use of EPOS systems and MS Outlook, Word and Excel products.
