Job Description

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Content Designer on a permanent basis with our public sector client based in Edinburgh City Centre. This role will be a hybrid position of with 2 days in the office and 3 from home.Salary: £35-42kPension: 21% Employer contributionAnnual Leave: Circa 40 DaysDuties Include;

  • Design, plan and carry out appropriate user research activities such as usability testing, card sorting and user interviews, to gather evidence to test hypotheses and guide user-centred decision-making.
  • Interpret data and research and communicate findings, to help teams align on a deep understanding of the people that use their services, and to inform the design of content to meet associated needs. Involve colleagues in analysis and synthesis of researchinsights to develop consensus and challenge assumptions.
  • Lead by example by proactively proposing and advocating content design practices to ensure continuous improvement of digital products and services.
  • Support and coach non-specialist colleagues and junior colleagues in content design methods and practices, empowering them to plan, structure, write and appraise effective digital content, and to use content management systems/platforms.
  • Develop and iteratively review and improve resources such as toolkits and playbooks which non specialists can use to self-serve content design needs. Lead discussion groupsacross a variety of formats (training, presentations, one-to-one and group meetings)and channels, including online.
  • Identify and make recommendations for content design improvements, continuously refining training and support mechanisms based on a deep understanding of the requirements of a non-technical user group.
  • Develop a continually collaborative environment, maintaining contact with relevant communities of practice.
Skills/Experience Required;
  • Proven experience designing digital content, demonstrable experience of following a style guide and maintaining a high level of editorial accuracy and attention to detail at all times
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write reports and presentations in a range of voices and styles for varied projects with diverse audiences, and experience communicating confidently and diplomatically with staffat different levels
  • Demonstrable experience of designing and implementing a range of evidence-based approaches - ability to form hypotheses, select, plan and conduct appropriate user research activities, analyse research data and communicate implications of research findingsrelevant to content design
  • Experience of developing content strategy and taxonomy design.
  • Demonstrable ability to develop and deliver training and support materials to colleagues and to support others in the design and development of online content
  • Experience of working and responding independently, as well as in multidisciplinary teams and adapting to deal with unforeseen problems and circumstances.
  • High level of IT literacy, and experience of working with software.
  • Strong understanding of legislative and compliance requirements around accessibility and privacy.
  • Operating knowledge of systems and processes to be able to provide first-line advice and guidance, of a more technical/specialised nature, to customers.
  • Significant experience working with content management systems or similar software packages
