This post will support LDR Prostate Brachytherapy (including theatre responsibilities), HDR Gynae Brachytherapy, and External Beam Treatment Planning. The post holder will work in LDR Prostate Brachytherapy theatre preparing I-125 radioactive sources in a sterile environment and develop bespoke external beam treatment plans consistent with the policies and procedures in the Treatment Planning section. The postholder will also contribute to the Quality Assurance and Quality Control programmes in the Dosimetry Section, and occasional evening work is required for this.Applicants should be eligible for or working towards registration as a Clinical Technologist (RCT) or be an HCPC registered Therapeutic Radiographer. Experience with Brachytherapy and External Beam treatment planning is required.Oncology Physics is part of the Edinburgh Cancer Centre (ECC), one of the leading cancer treatment centres in the United Kingdom. It receives referrals from Edinburgh and Lothian, Fife, the Borders, Dumfries and Galloway and for non-routine specialised treatments, like LDR Prostate Brachytherapy, and Stereotactic Radiosurgery from all Health Boards in Scotland. The Department provides a fully comprehensive clinical/technical and scientific service for all their patients. Eclipse is the External Beam treatment planning system with ARIA 13.6 as the Record and Verify system. Variseed is used for prostate seed implants and BrachyVision is used for HDR Gynae planning with the Varian GammaMed Plus afterloader. We are expanding use of VMAT, SBRT,HDR & transit dosimetry. The department is an active participant in clinical trials and has research links to the University of Edinburgh.This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.The use of the term “Senior” or “Junior” in this post refers only to the level of experience and responsibility required for this post rather than age.
