Job Description

Job Title: Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager, ScotlandRegion: ScotlandDirectorate: Campaigns, Policy and ResearchContract: Permanent. Full Time, 35 hours per weekSalary: £33,250 - £35,150 per annumThe RoleAt the Royal British Legion, we believe in building on potential. As a Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager, covering the Scotland area, your ability to grow and manage the Poppyscotland and the Legions campaign activities locally and to aid in the establishmentof a supporter network, could have a real impact on peoples lives.At its heart, RBL is a people organisation. People who want to do the very best for others, while at the same time making the most of the opportunities and experiences we offer them.We are the countrys largest Armed Forces charity, with 210,000 members, 50,000 volunteers and a network of partners and charities; helping us give support wherever and whenever its needed.As a Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager you will be responsible for managing the Poppyscotland and the Legions campaign activities locally and advising colleagues in both the Poppyscotland and the Legion on political developments of importance to thework of each charity.If successful, the main duties of your role will be:

  • To support Poppyscotland colleagues, the Legions Head of Campaigns and Public Affairs, Policy and Research colleagues with the development of a Public Affairs engagement programme in Scotland, and manage its day-to-day implementation through a combinationof regular events, meetings, briefings and attendance at conferences, including local government and party conferences.
  • To develop and maintain good working relationships with the Scottish Government, key Members of the Scottish Parliament and their staff, Mandatory and Subject Committees of the Parliament, All-Party Groups, Scottish MPs, the Scottish Veterans Commissioner,and other related stakeholders within Scotland, whilst also ensuring compliance with the Lobbying (Scotland) Act 2016.
  • To work with Campaigns, Policy and Research (CPR) and Poppyscotland and colleagues to develop programmes of engagement during elections and referendums, producing high quality campaign and guidance material where appropriate, and ensuring compliance withcharity and electoral law.
  • To routinely monitor political developments at the Scottish Parliament and parliamentary business and identify any areas of concern and opportunities to influence, producing external briefings on and concerning parliamentary business, as well as internalbriefings for Poppyscotland and Legion colleagues, as required and in consultation with Poppyscotland colleagues and the Head of Campaigns.
  • To support the Head of Campaigns, Public Affairs and Campaign Manager (UK) and Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager (Wales) in the development of a clear framework for the identification and delivery of campaigns, working with them and Poppyscotland colleaguesto ensure that campaigning priorities are evidence based and accountable.
  • To work with Poppyscotland colleagues, the Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager (UK) and Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager (Wales) on the development of campaign strategies and messages to facilitate positive policy change, with particular referenceto ensuring the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant are honoured at every level of government.
