Therefore, please make sure you complete and submit your application at an early stage**This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, creative and dynamic individual to join our unique preventative programme in the East of Scotland (Fife, Borders and Lothian) on a secondment or fixed term basis until November 2021.Type 2 Diabetes is one of the biggest preventable disease burdens in the region with significant care and cost consequences for the NHS and wider health economy, not to mention the significant personal burden to individuals and their families. Approximately 9% of current NHS budget is spent on diabetes or diabetes related conditions equating to an estimated £194m in the East Region.As Project Manager, you will be responsible for delivering projects across two workstreams. Leading our employer scope workstream you will work with partners to design and implement initiatives to improve the diet and healthy weight of employees across health, health and social care and council organisations in the East Region. Leading our whole systems workstream you will oversee grant funding and work to support local leads in 6 local authority areas to implement and embed community pilots testing a whole systems approaches to diet and healthy weight at a local level. Building on the progress to date you will implement and evaluate these projects to inform future investment and development.As a forward thinking change professional, you will work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to shape your projects; delivering short, medium and long term benefits, and developing an evidence base for future investment and activity. You will be a key member of our programme team, working in a high performing, creative and supportive environment. An excellent communicator, you will work across a multi-disciplinary, multi-organisational network.You should be educated to degree level with a high level of analytical skills and the ability to apply practical problem solving in a complex environment.Significant demonstrable experience of designing and delivering across all project phases; initiation, design, implementation, transition and support is essential, with a commitment to co-production.You should have excellent written and verbal communications skills, the ability to work with a range of stakeholders at all levels, and negotiation and diplomacy skills which will help you to facilitate discussions and design and deliver the scale and pace of change required.You do not need existing knowledge of T2D but do need experience of working within the public sector and in a change environment. You will be expected to lead and shape your projects, utilising knowledge and insights from subject matter experts, and evidencing success through monitoring and evaluation. Given the nature of the projects it may suit someone with an interest in developing training and awareness initiatives.This is a challenging role but with ‘Early Adopter’ status it is a fantastic opportunity for personal growth and to significantly contribute to this exciting agenda. Given the Scottish Government priority of creating a healthier population in Scotland through tackling obesity, diet, Type 2 Diabetes and wider health inequalities, and an investment of £42m over 5 years, this role will make a real different to individuals and our communities.We have an office space at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital but are currently working from home due to Covid-19 restrictions. We support flexible working arrangements.
