Job Description

Are you looking for a project management role which will combine your technical expertise with the chance to support world leading projects We are currently seeking an experienced project manager to drive the UK Astronomy Technology Centres (UKATC) contribution to HARMONI, the leading first-light instrument for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) in Chile.Your will work closely with the HARMONI Senior Project Manager, and the role will encompass local management of the UK ATCs contributions to the project and oversight of partners delivering subsystems for integration.We are looking for someone with a technical background who has ideally gained project management experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-partner development projects. Experience of astronomy or space projects would be an advantage but ofgreater importance is an ability to develop and nurture professional working relationships with a wide range of project partners.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage individual subsystem work-packages at UK ATC.
  • Manage work on the Integral Field Spectrograph (IFS) part of the instrument. This involves coordinating with the local PMs in various institutes in the UK and France.
  • Manage integration activities including the IFS, UK ATC subsystems and science software.
  • Provide schedule, budgetary, safety and risk control and reporting to relevant stakeholders.
About the UK ATCThe UK Astronomy Technology Centre (UK ATC) designs and builds ground and space-based instrumentation for large astronomical observatories around the world. UK ATC projects are typically multi-disciplinary, and international in nature, carried out by collaborativeteams made up from a variety of consortium partners from leading astronomical institutes all around the globe.
