Job Description

Prisoner Custody Officer, permanent, full time 38 hours per week

Starting salary is £20,431 rising to £21,261 after 12 months servicePart time opportunities available and we will fully fund your training for a Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) licence for category D.As a Prisoner Custody Officer your role is to provide court transportation services, collecting detainees from prisons or police stations and transporting them safely and securely to courts. Once there, youre responsible for every aspect of their care untilits time for them to return to custody or to be released.Duties include, accompanying defendants in court; searching property or people; ensuring food and drink is available and completing paperwork and data entry for the day. The people in your care will have a variety of different needs and it will be your roleto ensure those individuals are treated with dignity and respect whilst maintaining a safe, secure and structured environment.At GEOAmey we provide a vital public service through the safe and secure transportation and custody services for adults and young people across the UK, on behalf of the Scottish Prison Service, the Ministry of Justice and partners across the Criminal JusticeSystem.Whats involved in this jobWe have two types of Prisoner Custody Officer, one is based within a court and the other is based out of our Vehicle Base and will entail transportation of prisoners.
  • In both roles you will be responsible for the physical and mental wellbeing of those in your care, ensuring their health, safety and wellbeing is a priority.
  • You will also liaise with Prison and police authorities, youll ensure all documentation is completed and correct, carrying out risk assessments on vulnerable or at risk prisoners before transferring them
  • Managing personal property and being responsible for organising and supervising meals and drinks
Vehicle Based role
  • You will transport prisoners (sometimes very high profile) from courts, police stations or prisons
  • Youll be responsible for your vehicle each day, carrying out external and internal checks and also making sure your vehicle has sufficient equipment for the day, like food and water
  • You could also be carrying out custodial duties within a court location
Court Based role
  • Youll work as part of a team to make sure all those in custody are safe, looked after and arrive in the court dock on time
  • Carry out custodial duties within a court location
  • Maintain security and order in the court room and custody suite
  • Supervising movements around the court location
  • Searching of individuals, cells and areas of the custody suites
What experience do I needWe provide a 6 week super comprehensive full time training programme which will ensure you are fully prepared for all eventualities of the role. Were looking for you to have the right behaviours to care for and help people, so working well in a team, empathyand patience and someone who can listen, understand and communicate effectively.
