Job Description

The Biochemistry service for Lothian is provided from 3 main hospital sites providing a comprehensive service to primary and secondary care. The service also accepts tertiary referrals for a range of specialist testing, including antenatal screening, gastrointestinal investigations, toxicology, specialist endocrinology and protein work.You will assist the Head of Service in provision of a highly specialist clinical scientific service in Clinical Biochemistry within NHS Lothian (NHSL) and provides expert analytical, interpretive and clinical advice to medical, nursing and other laboratory staff in the acute and primary care divisions on the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of patients.You will also lead the clinical and technical management of a sub-division of the specialty. You will have overall responsibility for the provision and management of a broad range of complex, specialised scientific investigations and undertake research, development and training within a specialist field of Clinical Biochemistry. Initially this will be in the Toxicology section being responsible for the in-house immunosuppressive drugs, urine and oral fluid drugs of abuse methods. You will work autonomously within professional guidelines and may deputise for the Head of Department.Applications are invited from dynamic individuals with a proven scientific and professional record and the enthusiasm to work as part of a team.
