POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER / LECTURER IN CROP PROTECTIONEdinburgh£31,750 - £37,263 per annum Ref: R/CS/010/19SRUC is unique in Scotland and one of the largest organisations of its kind in Europe. Our ambitious and exciting vision is to work at local, national and international levels, leading innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors.SRUC, The Roslin Institute and the National Institute of Agricultural Botany are currently establishing a centre for integrative plant and animal breeding to serve the needs of breeding activities in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). This centre will harness and expand upon latent expertise in quantitative genetics in the UK. It will undertake research into the development and implementation of carefully designed breeding programs in conjunction with CGIAR institutes and national agricultural research centres in LMICs. SRUC already has a successful programme of research and teaching on sustainable crop protection and plant health, which bridges the fundamental and translational aspects of SRUC activity and, with an increased emphasis on plant health, we are also expanding this area and seeking to establish new collaborative work with LMIC’s.In this role, you will take on and develop a programme of research covering plant-pathogen interactions, control of the important pathogens/pests/weeds to Scottish and global agriculture, utilising novel technologies and Integrated Pest Management. You will also contribute to the research and teaching deliverables, at both undergraduate and post graduate level, of the Crop Protection Team at SRUC. You will be expected to contribute to the publication record and impact of the Crop Protection team so a track record of publishing in refereed and trade journals is desirable. The post will also include responsibility for undergraduate and postgraduate project supervision.You will be an experienced researcher with strong expertise in crop protection and ideally have lecturing and teaching experience.
