Job Description

Platform EngineerPertemps Scotland Ltd are working with our client in Edinburgh to recruit for a Platform Engineer in the Public Sector on a temporary basis for 6 Months with potential extension.Due to current circumstances this role will be based remotely.D/R - £330 to £430 (Outside IR35)The main duties would be:

  • Deliver production Metrocluster build
  • Migrate current legacy platform (VxBlock and VNX storage) to Metrocluster
  • Decommission legacy platform
  • Deliver VMWare stretch cluster
  • Collaborate with colleagues, including the Product Manager, to define, refine and prioritise the database roadmap and backlog
  • Continued development and support of the Organisations virtual and storage platforms in line with the product and architecture roadmaps, including but not limited to:
  • Ensuring appropriate access controls are in place, monitored and adhered to
  • Managing, monitoring and improving performance to meet user needs
  • Collaboratively assisting with the re-platforming/re-development of existing applications
  • Collaboratively design, plan and deploy new technology solutions (e.g.
  • vRealize automation orchestration, vROPS, VMWare NSX, Nutantix, RHEL server re-platforming, SAN migration, SRM, DR and BC enhancement)
  • Propose and implement platform improvements
  • Monitor and manage platform health, capacity, availability, integrity and currency
  • Developing and maintaining appropriate documentation and artefacts, e.g. designs, local work instructions, etc.
  • Requirement for platform engineering services
  • Ensuring all software applications and server instances are backed up; including managing backup policies, routines and schedules
  • Monitoring the functional efficiency of storage and archiving procedures
  • Supporting disaster recovery events
  • Managing data protection
  • Troubleshooting and resolving platform related issues
  • Continuously inspecting and adapting to improve existing processes
  • Actively participating in all team events, leading where specialist knowledge in required, and supporting the team to improve their process through inspection and adaptation
  • Actively participating in all relevant communities of practice and governance
    • EssentialSignificant and demonstrable commercial experience in the following areas:
  • VMWare 6.X multi-site environments
  • VxBlock environments
  • NSX environments
  • SAN management and design
  • Platform monitoring solutions and paradigms
  • NetAPP AFF SANS
  • MetroClusterEMC Avamar/Data Domain Expert
  • Nutanix visualisation platform
  • Fibre Channel Fabrics, including Brocade switching
  • Disaster recovery planning and execution, including wider assurance activities
  • Data centre management and best practices
  • Windows and RHEL operating systems
  • Infrastructure as code, including automation using ansible, powershell/powercli, bash, perl and/or python
  • Grafana
  • Agile working practices, including Kanban
  • Cross-functional DevOps environment
    • Desirable
  • Certified across: Cisco CCNA / CCNP, VMware VCP 6.5 or higher / VCAP NV & VCE -
  • CIAE / CIMAE / Nutanix NCP, NetApp NCDA
  • Commercial experience of the following:
  • Working with an assurance function to ensure DR/BCP design and testing procedures are fit for purpose
  • Security design and architecture
