Job Description

Photonics Systems Specialist - Near Edinburgh (Hybrid) - Around 45K plus benefits Loriens client based near Edinburgh is looking to recruit the skills of a Photonics Systems Specialist on a permanent basis. This person will use their practical skills and good knowledge of Photonics, Optical Coherence Tomography and Imaging in generalto pay a key part in the team and help to conceptualise and integrate core systems. With this role being quite hands-on and in a very collaborative part of the business, this hybrid model will be to the tune of roughly 3 office visits per week.As well as a generous bonus scheme, this organisation offers a range of other benefits plus great upskilling and career progression opportunities - meaning you can actively direct your career where you would like it to go - and the chance to work in an industrysector where youll know your work is giving something positive back to the world; specifically improving lives just like the many across the globe they have helped already.This is a great opportunity for a Senior Photonics expert, or someone more junior whos delivered projects in academic/commercial settings and looking to learn, and these are the kind of things youd get up to and what theyd like you to bring to the table:Duties:

  • Develop/document system requirements
  • Integrate imaging systems and implement prototype systems
  • Design analysis and system design/architecture reviews
  • System performance analysis and verification via simulations/test/etc.
  • Liaise with stakeholders at all levels to shape the wider system strategy
  • Keeping up to date with latest trends and development to proactively apply this knowledge to system/standards improvements
Skills/Knowledge:
  • Background involving the development/integration of optical imaging/spectroscopy systems
  • Breadth of knowledge across optical systems/optoelectronics/optomechanical/software-driven hardware
  • Previous dealings with Hardware Interfacing & Data Processing with tools like Labview/Matlab/C#/C++/similar
  • Ideally knowledge of OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and Systems Engineering/Architecture with tech such as UML/Simulink/Visio
  • Strong interpersonal skills for when you work closely with or occasionally travel to meet with teams in Japan
