Job Description

We are looking for a Payroll Assistant to join our team on a fixed term basis to cover a period of maternity leave (likely to be up to 12 months). With around 1800 salaried employees the Payroll Assistant will provide front-line payroll customer service and administration support in a timely and accurate manner to employees and managers from across the University.Edinburgh Napier University is the #1 Modern University in Scotland’. You will provide advice and guidance to internal and external customers including HR staff, line managers, employees and external agencies on all pay and reward related matters. This includes statutory provisions, real time information (RTI), auto enrolment and pensions matters.You will ensure the payroll system (Midland Itrent) is updated and maintained in a timely and accurate manner as well as producing standard reports ensuring all auditing and statutory requirements are met.You will maintain and report information for the University’s Pension Schemes, maintaining relationships with providers and keeping knowledge up-to-date, implementing changes as necessary.You will also support the Payroll Manager in the running of the monthly payrolls and associated bacs transferWho we are looking forWe are looking for someone to join the team with the right skills, attitude and a good eye for detail.Ideally you will have experience in a proactive generalist payroll department including answering queries from employees and managers on pay related matters.You will have experience of inputting and transactional processes, running reports on an integrated HR/Payroll system. You will have excellent knowledge of PAYE, NI and other statutory issues.You will possess excellent customer service skills and be an effective communicator. You will be highly numerate with accurate data input skills, and an ability to work on your own initiative and to tight deadlines.Strong IT skills are important for this role including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.This is a great opportunity to work in a supportive payroll team within a broader HR department.How will we reward youYou can expect a minimum of 36 days annual leave (includes bank holidays), a generous pension scheme, professional development opportunities, discounted access to onsite sports facilities and a wide range of other staff discounts.
