Job Description

Manufacturing ScientistPermanentEdinburgh£25,000-£30,000Kelly Services, working with a global Biotech company are keen to speak with Manufacturing Scientists to work at our clients site in Edinburgh. Reporting to the Senior Manufacturing Scientist, the role will involve the culture of human induced pluripotent stem cells, their differentiation to terminally derived specific cell type products, in conjunction with the manufacture of associated cell culturemedia reagents, all of which are a core part of the business. This will involve working in our well-equipped modern laboratories following our SOP controlled processes. The role also includes scheduling and tracking manufacture/production runs and reporting back to Senior Manufacturing Scientist.The Scientist will show initiative and pro-activeness in their accountabilities.Areas of responsibility Manufacture/Production Work independently and efficiently to carry out high quality cell culture. To include generating, expanding, maintaining, and banking cellular material in a timely fashion using proven manufacturing SOPs Ensure that all products manufactured in house are of high quality and consistent across different batches Quality and Continuous Improvement Processes and feeding back these improvements into SOPs in a controlled manner Ensure all manufacturing processes (SOPs) relating to the Quality Management System are always used Ensure that all laboratory manufacturing work is accurately recorded in appropriate Batch History Records as required by the relevant SOP and provides accountability and traceability of the batches 5S, lean manufacturing initiatives suggestions for improvements Coordinate with R&D on product transfers and improvements Aid investigating NCRs & CAPAs to resolution Facilities and House Keeping Performing daily laboratory housekeeping activities, including but not limited to cleaning of laboratories, stock control and waste disposal Completion of laboratory notebooks and standard forms in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and good documentation practice Preparation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures Assist with managing the day to day running of the lab Reporting and Communication Interact with other members of the laboratory team to provide meaningful exchange of information Interact professionally with colleagues Provide regular feedback to line manager/other members of the laboratory team Assist in the running of the lab Coordinating with the leadership team Health and Safety Follow all local health and safety rules Communicate and share good practice Promote and foster a culture of health and safety compliance Supply Chain Coordinating with Supply Chain for resupply of raw materials, consumable, equipment, shipping requirements, validation, QC, etc Ordering of consumables and tracking of stock through the laboratory The post holder will have the following experience, skills, and attributes: BSc/MSc. in a biological science and 2-3 years of relevant post-graduation laboratory experience Extensive experience of culturing primary cells and or cell lines with excellent asceptic technique. Experience of maintaining/differentiating human stem cells, ideally induced pluripotent stem cells. Knowledge of cell-based assays, immunocytochemistry and PCR. Ability to learn tasks quickly and become independent. Ability to correctly interpret data. Excellent organisational and planning skills. Computer literate: Microsoft office programmes including word and Excel.
