Job Description

Pertemps Scotland Ltd are working with our client in Edinburgh to recruit for an Infrastructure Manager on a ongoing basis. The role is full time Monday to Fridayand the rate of pay is £14.75 per hour.Start: ASAPContract ends: ongoingRate: £14.75phF/T Monday - FridayJob Summary:The IT Infrastructure Manager has overall management responsibility of Scotlands IT infrastructure and architecture covering storage, servers, networks, telephony and information security. This role will have responsibility to direct, create and evolve infrastructure technical strategies, architectures and roadmaps.You will be responsible for maintaining high availability of these systems and the integrity of the data that they hold. In addition, the manager has responsibility of ensuring that the infrastructure meets the needs of Gallery staff and customers, and fulfils obligations relating to areas such as the safeguarding of digital collections, cyber security, good project management, and business continuity.Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall management and responsibility for the IT infrastructure and systems architecture. This consists of multiple data centres, LAN, WAN, and wireless networks, storage, servers, telephony, Microsoft enterprise applications and infrastructure, MFDs and printers.
  • Be the technical expert and have overall accountability for the enterprise infrastructure.
  • Develop short, medium, and long term strategies and plans for the development of IT Infrastructure to meet the buildings strategy and business plans developing transitional and final state architectures and roadmaps as necessary.
  • To maintain continuity of services to customers, plan and co-ordinate hardware and client/server software upgrades and secure delivery of enterprise applications to staff.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the IT environment including downtime, reporting service levels, defining and tracking IT operational metrics
  • Work closely with the key stakeholders and partners to ensure that the necessary infrastructure is managed and maintained appropriately. These include:
  • Estates Department
  • Suppliers (e.g. network support and hardware support companies)
  • To ensure information security of our technical infrastructure and to help formulate policies for business continuity, disaster recovery and mitigation of risks. Manage backup and recovery approaches.
  • Provide high-level support on projects with an IT element and manage IT projects as required.
  • Management of specific technologies as required including
  • Messaging and directory systems (Microsoft Active Directory Services and Exchange e-mail).
  • Virtualisation technologies (Citrix, VMWare).
  • Ensure routine and preventative maintenance is undertaken, ensuring systems and software is patched and up to date.
  • As a delegated Procurement Officer for infrastructure purchases follow procurement procedures and guidelines.
  • Contract management, including hardware and software maintenance agreements, by engaging with external support companies to ensure contract terms are adhered to.
  • Responsible for server and network hardware and software asset management and license compliance and governance.
  • Keep up to date with changing technologies and the benefits and advantages they may offer.
  • Participation in an out of hours call-out system whereby an IT emergency is escalated through the incident procedure needing urgent attention.
  • Follow an appropriate program of personal continuing professional development.
  • Essential sills:
  • Experience of running data centres, and associated IT infrastructure (either general, or with a specific specialism in one area such as networks, storage, or servers - but with a broad knowledge of all areas).
  • Knowledge and experience of information security requirements.
  • Design and planning of infrastructure changes over short, medium, and long term to meet the changing needs of an organisation.
  • Procurement, tender, contract, and supplier management.
  • Knowledge of SLAs and KPIs.
  • Strategic planning and project management.
  • Good understanding of ITIL framework.
  • Budget management and procurement skills.
  • Understanding of management issues in complex organisations.
  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate staff at appropriate levels
  • Ability to prioritise and manage varied workloads against agreed deadlines
  • Ability to Investigate and resolve problems.
  • Experience of working in project environments.
  • Good knowledge of current trends and practice in the use of digital and information technology preferably within a relevance to this role.
  • A flexible, supportive and collaborative working style.
  • Experience of successfully liaising with stakeholders of all levels, balancing priorities and working collaboratively.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills ranging from report writing to presentations to face-to-face meetings.
