Pertemps are recruiting for a Hearings Macer to support a high profile Public Inquiry on a temporary basis up to 2023. This role will work as an Inquiry Assistant and involve providing a great level of service to members of the public attending Hearingsas part of the inquiry. Previous Public Sector experience is desirable for this role and applicants should be able to work with great professionalism and ability to show empathy. Please note this role will be public facing and applicants should therefore becomfortable working within an Edinburgh City Centre location.Pay: £156 per dayHours: 37hrs per weekLocation: Edinburgh City CentreDuties and Responsibilities- Present, at all times, a professional, alert, visible and commanding presence;- Escort the Chair of the Inquiry to and from the Hearing Room and ensure that she has what is required for the hearing;- Announce the commencement/closure of proceedings and call witnesses to give evidence as required;- Document and report any matters of concern to the Hearings Officer, providing complete and accurate incident reports as appropriate;- Ensure the safety and security of visitors to the Hearing Suite;- Greet, assist and direct members of the public as required;- Move documents or other light items to and from the Hearing Room;- Work collaboratively with Counsel, Witness Support and other members of the Inquiry team to ensure the smooth running of the Hearings- Assist in reviewing and, where applicable, creating and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure there are defined measures of control in line with ongoing business needs;- Undertake general administrative duties, when the Hearings are not in session;- Adhere to established administrative processes, recognising and developing areas for improvement; and- Undertake other ad hoc duties, as required.Experience Required- Prior experience of working with members of the public in a relevant sector, e.g. courts- Excellent customer services skills- Strong observational skills with the ability to evaluate and respond to any unexpected matters in a swift and effective manner- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills- Ability to build and maintain the confidence of the Inquiry Chair and senior team and act with discretion at all times- Strong problem solving skills with ability to work autonomously- Personal resilience and the ability to deal with what can be a distressing subject matter.- Flexibility in working hours to meet business needsSuccessful appointment in this role will be under the condition of a Disclosure and Baseline Security checks.Please submit your CV today to be considered for this post.
