Job Description

Housing OfficerBased in Edinburgh (Hybrid working with site visits)£17.89 per hour + holiday pay (Equivalent of £32,547 pa)Reed Business Support are delighted to be working with one of Scotlands leading Social Housing providers on a Housing Officer role. This is a temporary position expected to last between 12 and 16 weeks and will provide the successful candidate with theopportunity to work with a modern, innovative employer. Youll be responsible for working closely with tenants and providing a comprehensive housing management service.

  • Hours: Monday - Friday (9am - 5pm)
  • Start in early January
  • Hybrid working model (1 day per week in office) with site visits across East Scotland
Key responsibilities:
  • Providing a high quality customer service to tenants and applicants for social housing properties
  • Working closely with relevant partners, local authorities, and other housing agencies to best support customers
  • Engaging with community organisations to support engagement and independent living opportunities for customers
  • Helping to administer allocations policy and procedures, including reviewing applications
  • Effectively managing empty properties to minimise void periods
  • Conducting pre and post inspections to ensure any repairs are conducted
  • Delivering an efficient rent and service change accounting and management control service
  • Ensuring preventative and early arrears control actions are applied
  • Preparing rent arrears cases for legal action
  • Ensuring fair rents and re-registered and implemented at appropriate times
  • Maintaining a knowledge of the Welfare Benefits system
  • Taking the lead on tenancy and estate management within your area
  • Managing contracts for gardening and cleaning of common areas
  • Setting up and running regular estate management inspections
  • Handling complaints and neighbour disputes in line with policies and procedures
  • Promoting and attending tenant engagement meetings
  • Helping to settle in new tenants
  • Supporting Housing Coordinators with administrative duties such as maintaining tenant databases
Person specifications:
  • Previous experience working with a registered social landlord or local authority
  • Experience carrying out estate management functions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong IT skills (ideally experience with a housing management system)
  • Highly organised with the ability to work to deadlines and manage a varied workload
  • Self-motivated with the ability to use initiative
  • UK driving license for more than 1 year / UK driving license with access to own vehicle
Desirable:
  • Good knowledge of latest housing legislation and Welfare Benefits system
  • Experience and knowledge dealing with property maintenance systems
