To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.***PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accept late applications so please ensure your application is submitted early***South East Scotland Clinical Genetics ServiceWestern General Hospital EdinburghNHS LothianGenetic Counsellor or Trainee Genetic Counsellor*Grade: Band 7 or Band 7 (Annex U)*Hours: 37.5 hours£37,570 - £43,772 per annum *An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and highly motivated Genetic Counsellor in the South East of Scotland Clinical Genetic Service based at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.You will be expected to practice in a wide range of genetic conditions to ensure delivery of an efficient and effective Genetic Counsellor service.The successful applicant will work as part of a team of Genetic Counsellors to deliver a comprehensive service including the provision of outreach clinics. There will be the opportunity to practice in a wide range of genetic conditions.Within this role the post-holder will also be expected to contribute to the development of services in accordance with the requirements of the department.Applicants should be registered with the Genetic Counsellor Registration Board (GCRB). Experience of managing a clinical caseload and the ability to demonstrate a willingness to adapt to the changing needs of the service is desirableApplicants working towards GCRB registration will be considered under Annex U arrangements (Trainee). The appointment will be at band 7 annex U until have registration is successfully achieved. A maximum of 36 months will be allowed for completion of the GCRB registration portfolio.The South East of Scotland Genetics Service is a nationally acclaimed unit, providing a supra-regional comprehensive genetics service to a population of approximately 1.25 million. The service is based at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh and covers Lothian, Fife and the Borders. A number of outreach clinics are held at St Johns Hospital Livingston, Queen Margaret Hospital Dunfermline, Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy, Borders General Hospital Melrose and Roodlands Hospital Haddington. For informal enquiries, please contact Gillian Scott (Principal Genetic Counsellor) onor email * Please note if this post is filled as a Trainee post, Annex U will apply Periods of training lasting for between one and four years, pay will be adjusted as follows: • More than three years from completion of training –60% of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.• More than two but less than three years prior to completion of training – 65% of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.• More than one year but less than two years prior to completion of training – 70% of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.• Up to 12 months prior to completion of training – 75% of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate.This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
