Job Description

Enigma People Solutions is recruiting a Functional Safety Engineer to join our client’s European Design Centre in Edinburgh. Our client is a world leader in developing and manufacturing magnetic sensor and Power ICs for high growth markets such as automotive hybrid and electric vehicles, office automation, industrial motor drive, consumer/communications, and green solutions.Over the past 4 years of working with this client, I can tell you that they have doubled in size and are still growing. Company owners and board of directors have sung the praises about this design centre and are committed to growing it further by additional funding and by providing cutting edge technology to the team. You will work closely with systems engineers and have the opportunity to influence the companys product and technology directions. My client is committed to hiring the best talent, so you can rest assured you’ll be working with bright professionals who are passionate about their work.This position is located in Edinburgh, Scotland but we expect close collaboration with other offices within Europe. You will be responsible for functional safety, product definition, as well as system level design and architecture of our client’s next generation Power IC products. You will be asked to assure the safety of ICs that will be integrated into systems.You will be asked to:

  • Join forces with application engineers, marketing, and customers to define product safety requirements by understanding the customer application requirements (electrical, mechanical, EMI/EMC) and performing functional system modeling
  • Define new product safety architectures and algorithms that enable cutting-edge solutions for current and future customer systems.
  • Provide technical and functional safety guidance and support to the development team during the design and evaluation of the new product before market release, including:
  • Review the IC design before silicon tape out through prototyping, modeling, and simulation
  • Propose the test strategy and work with the evaluation engineering groups to ensure compliance to the product requirements
  • Generate product concept designs, develop high level architecture, owns the System Requirements
  • RESPONSIBILITIES
  • A core facilitation role to define how components will function together and how it interacts with the outside world
  • Defines interfaces between Sub-Systems
  • Ensure Sub-Systems function correctly together
  • Mediates interaction between teams
  • Implementation focused role looking at testing and combining the parts of the system into a functional whole
  • Integrates the Sub-Systems
  • Builds Test Benches to exercise Interfaces
  • Be a leader in creating and continuously improving innovative, simple and safe system designs. Work with functional safety engineers to complete foundational and future functional safety analysis
  • Analyze customer requirements
  • Requirements capture, management and technical review at system and subsystem level
  • Ensure the System safety requirements including diagnostic, hardware, software requirements are implemented, and traced in Software and Hardware with linkage to appropriate safety analysis, Design Artifacts, Validation artifacts
  • Analyze complex systems, processes, and organizational architectures to improve development activities and outcomes
  • Model complex systems and lead the evolution of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methods
  • Participate in qualitative and quantitative analyses, using methods such as FTA, FMEA, FMEDA
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Electronics, System or Software Engineering, with a solid understanding of analog and digital electronics, systems and embedded software. In addition, the candidate must possess exceptional communication and presentation skills and the ability to facilitate effectiveness within cross-functional teams.
  • Working knowledge and experience in Systems Engineering and Systems Thinking
  • Automotive systems experience, modeling of system behaviors
  • Experience with Automotive Product Development Life Cycle (Systems, Hardware and Software)
  • SOC architecture, Embedded software design
  • Knowledge of MATLAB / Simulink or other modeling tools
  • Experience of Requirements analysis and Requirements Management tools (e.g., Polarion, Jama, DOORS)
  • Basic programming capability in C, C++, Python or similar
  • Preferred:
  • Object Management Group (OMG) Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP)
  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional Certification (ASEP, CSEP, ESEP)
  • Experienced with modeling languages such as UML, SysML, and BPMN
  • Knowledge of ASPICE or CMMI, STPA
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety Theory, ISO 26262 certification preferred or another recognized safety standard
  • Candidates should also be able to demonstrate:
  • Good presentation skills in English and the ability to present complex ideas succinctly and persuasively to peers, management and customers
  • A high level of commitment and self-motivation - seeing every challenge as a learning opportunity and invitation to grow
  • Excellent analytical and synthetical problem-solving skills
  • TRAVEL REQUIREMENTSDomestic and International travel may be required for this role. The below provides an indication only of the amount, type and locations of travel.
