Venesky-Browns client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, are currently looking to recruit a Full Stack Java Developer for an initial 6 month contract on a rate of £450-475/day (outside of IR35). Due to the current circumstances this role will be remote based for the foreseeable future. The Role:A good all-round experienced developer is required to accelerate our clients move away from our legacy finance systems. The main focus of the work will be the collaborative development of new serverless micro-services using AWS Lambda functions and Typescript/JavaScript. However, the initial priority for the team is the stabilisation and upgrade to the latest version of our existing finance system, hence a working knowledge of shell scripting languages, such as Bash, and Oracle databases, would be a plus. Responsibilities:• Stabilise eFinancials with eFinancials 5.5 upgrade in production use• Development of new Invoicing Service to support multiple registers• Troubleshooting development and production problems across multiple environments and operating platforms, from the AWS-based modern stack to the multiple strands of ETL and database (legacy and otherwise) that underpins the service• Demonstrate excellent, sustainable and collaborative software development practice thats focused on delivering highly readable, maintainable and appropriate artefacts• Coach and mentor less experienced members of the team.• Ensure high quality of developed solutions through development and maintenance of automated tests - with appropriate code coverage and code analysis using code quality tools.• Ensure that developed software complies with non-functional requirements, such as accessibility, security, UI/UX, performance, maintainability and deployability.• Routinely use collaborative development practices such as pairing and mobbing in programming, code reviews, system design and requirements analysis.Essential Skills:• Commercial experience of developing and testing modern JavaScript and/or Typescript, and AWS SDK• Java and/or Python • Experience using different kinds of databases (e.g. noSQL/relational).• Experience working in agile delivery models, such as Kanban and/or Scrum, together with demonstrable experience with XP engineering practices.• Experience with event-driven systems (e.g. CQRS)• Experience using tools to support rapid development, iteration and delivery.• Experience defining infrastructure as code.• Experience designing and implementing a solution using a service-based and serverless architecture.Desirable Skills:• AWS Lambda functions for developing micro-services• AWS CDK and/or Cloud Formation infrastructure as code• Node JS• Domain-driven design• Human-centred, research-driven, inclusive design practices• Testing tools and frameworks• Cloud monitoring, telemetry, intelligence tools and processesIf you would like to hear more about this opportunity please get in touch.
