Job Description

Our prestigious client is currently on the look out for a Financial Analyst!The details are as follows:Hourly Rate: £17.58Onsite in EdinburghHours: 35 Hours a week, 7 hours per day, Monday - Friday.Job PurposeTo support the Finance Business Partner by:

  • Preparing journals and management accounts.
  • Preparing financial analysis and management information for both strategic and operational purposes, financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, checking and reconciling financial data to ensure it is accurate and processed according to University policyand procedures.
  • Supporting understanding of financial policy and procedure by liaising with staff across the business area.
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationship with key stakeholders to assist with preparing financial data.
Main responsibilities
  • Conduct financial month-end and year-end processes; preparing and 30% inputting journals; organising accruals and prepayments; assisting with audit queries.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations of accounts; resolving 30% and clearing exceptions and errors; proposing remedies to processes where relevant; supporting regular financial data cleansing and financial control.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts; 30% perform research facility costings and rates calculations; information and workload planning modelling; respond to regular ad hoc requests for financial analysis and variance reviews.
  • Support non-finance staff to understand finance policy and procedure; 10% liaise with stakeholders to produce financial information; supervise and develop team members where relevant.
The post holder will receive direction and support from the Finance Business Partner, but plan own daily and monthly work activities to ensure effective service delivery, while resolving conflicting timescales and priorities independently. The post holderwill work and collaborate as part of the FBP team, taking on responsibilities as required.Problem SolvingThe post holder will identify problems, resolve issues and liaise with others to propose improvements on areas of weakness. He/she will prepare financial reports that are clear and concise and simplify complex financial data. The post holder will demonstratea solid understanding of financial policy and process, and be able to explain these to both technical and non-technical colleagues across the business.Decision MakingThe post holder will need to make decisions in relation to his/her area of work including prioritising requests and month-end tasks to meet deadlines.The post holder will work closely with finance business partners and other key operational and specialist finance staff. The post holder will liaise with and resolve day-to-day operational problems with internal and external customers, attend meetings whenrequested by his/her line manager to support department interests. The post holder will develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, such as school and/or department operational and technical staff.Knowledge Skills and ExperienceAttributeEssentialDesirableEducation,Qualifications& Training* HNC/HND or equivalentlevel qualification in a relevant discipline plus 2-3 years relevantexperience* Or* Broad and considerable experience (minimum 5 years) acquired through on the job training.Line management experienceKnowledge & ExperienceComprehensive knowledge of finance policies and procedures.
