Job Description

Enigma People Solutions is excited to have been engaged by a world leading international Semiconductor Design client to search for a talented Failure Analysis Engineer. The culture suits highly organised, self-motivated, strongly analytical problem solvers who can work with a sense of urgency and thrive in a dynamic environment whilst retaining a keen sense of humanity, collaboration, openness and support of colleagues.Specializing in low power ICs for audio and voice signal processing applications, our client’s products span the entire audio signal chain, from capture to playback, providing innovative products for the world’s top smartphones, tablets, digital headsets, wearables and emerging smart home applications.It is expected that most people interested in this role will require some training and development which the client has committed to. Successful applicants are likely to come from a variety of backgrounds including Semiconductor assembly, Manufacturing test roles, technician or process engineer or lab-based research backgrounds and may see this role as a move up or sideways.To be of interest you will be able to demonstrate experience in Semiconductor and or Electronics manufacture, problem solving and analysis skills, eagerness to work in a lab, technical writing and documentation skills, some previous exposure to failure analysis equipment (although training will be given on the specific tools used by this team).Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform device level FA in a collaborative environment to support customer returns, product qualifications, yield excursions, and new product development.
  • Perform electrical and physical fault isolation on mixed signal IC devices to identify root cause of failure.
  • Communicate directly with project managers, design groups, regional teams and external analysis labs.
  • Provide failure analysis resource across the business to support qualification, production and customer issues.
  • Work within cross-functional teams to determine and understand the root cause of product failures.
  • Use advanced failure analysis equipment (SEM, FIB, EDX, EMMI, LSM) within Cirrus Logic’s FA Lab
  • Decide appropriate failure analysis flows based on the failure mode information
  • Write failure analysis reports that summarize the analysis carried out, conclusions drawn and relevance to the issue under investigation.
  • Support of critical customer issues, to establish root cause of failure within aggressive timescales
  • Design debug, reliability qualification support & yield enhancement work
  • Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Degree qualified in Science/Engineering (or equivalent experience) plus relevant background in failure analysis of IC devices.
  • Understanding of fault isolation methods (visual inspection, emission microscopy, thermal imaging, LSM, circuit tracing - CAD layout)
  • Ability to interpret electrical test data, ATE datalogs & applications test results.
  • Knowledge of failure analysis equipment (SEM, X-ray, FIB, EDX, EMMI, OBIRCH, optical microscope, Micro/Nanoprobing)
  • Familiarity with physical failure analysis techniques (polishing, RIE, chemical de-processing)
  • Knowledge of semiconductor device structure and manufacturing processes (die and package level)
  • Good understanding of reliability engineering methods, tests and failure modes
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Good communication and technical report writing skills, preparation and presentation of technical papers
  • Ability to work under pressure on multiple tasks with tight and variable time scales
  • Attention to detail, Safety conscious
  • Some collaboration with a sister team in the US is required leading to 1-2 trips per year to the US where approved. Required skills
