Job Description

Would you like to join a company which is now embarking on an ambitious plan to build a large-scale flow battery demonstrator which requires experienced, flexible and dedicated people that are passionate about making a difference If Yes, thenthis could be an opportunity for you!About the RoleWe are seeking a skilled and experienced Electronic Engineer to join our team to support the development of our Single Liquid Flow Battery. The successful candidate will be working as part of team, supporting development of dedicated controlsystems for the Single Liquid Flow Battery system.You will be carrying out and co-ordinating the design and development of all aspects of the Flow Battery control system. This will include aspects such as Control System design, PCB prototyping and firmware development.The candidate will interact with a technically diverse, distributed team across StorTera and with external partners. We are seeking a candidate with the ability to work independently, think critically and analytically and apply knowledge effectively witha focus on innovation.Key Responsibilities:The key responsibilities of an Electronic & Control Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Design engineering of Flow Battery control systems
  • Providing technical specifications for embedded control systems implementation
  • Testing and construction of specialised laboratory test rigs
  • Implement designed control algorithms on PLCs or specialized developer boards.
  • Development of test plans and undertake laboratory-based testing of prototype systems against design specs
  • Leading technical input for risk mitigation strategies such as FMEAs for the operation of the Flow Battery
  • Co-ordinating with external contractors for full system design
  • Controlling costs and meet project deadlines
  • Problem-solving, and providing technical and hands on support
Key Skills & Experience:The key skills and qualities of an Electronic Engineer:
  • BSc or higher degree in Electronic engineering
  • Basic knowledge of energy storage and renewable energy; a working knowledge of battery management and control systems; a sound understanding of different kinds of industrial electrical and electronic equipment and instruments would be preferred.
  • A working knowledge of industrial communication systems such as MODBUS and CANBUS.
  • Strong experience in Matlab / Simulink, C, C++, python is preferred
  • Experience with cloud based processing and time series databases.
  • Experience with PLC, SCADA & HMI and experience in programming PLCs and microcontroller/ microprocessor developer boards
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills with the ability to work on their own initiative and manage multiple projects and workstreams simultaneously
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, able to build relationships easily
  • Can demonstrate commitment to high standards, society and the environment
